Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Fayetteville, N.C. (July 6, 2015) -- Six RBIs off the bat of Austin Garcia (Bethune-Cookman), punctuated by his two-run single in the 13th inning, led the way in an 8-6 Lexington County Blowfish win over the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Monday night. It was the first time the Blowfish have won in extra innings in the 2015 season.
Prince and Princess Parade coming up on Friday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium!
Garcia, with Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida) and Bennette Hill (Shelton State) on the basepaths, smashed a two-run single into left field to score them both. The Blowfish could not score on two prior opportunities with a runner on third in extras, but Garcia's hot bat cut the tie, providing a two-run cushion.
Garcia scored Duty and Hill on a two-run single in the sixth inning, and brought in Duty on a two-run home run over the left field wall in the top of the second inning.
In total, the Florida native more than doubled his RBI total from 5 to 11.
Tyler Kimbrell (Spartanburg Methodist), seeing his first action in 2015, pitched two solid, scoreless innings. He struck out the side in the 13th inning to end the game, and punched
out two others in the 12th frame.
Fayetteville rallied to score five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to evaporate a long-standing Blowfish lead. Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) showed his all-star form after the game had been tied up at 6, striking out five batters in 3.2 innings of critical, late-inning relief.
Had it not been for Hill's triple, and subsequent score on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the eighth, this game could have ended in the home team's favor much earlier.
In total, the SwampDogs left 13 runners on base, leaving the bases loaded in their impressive, three-run eighth inning. Most importantly, they stranded KiJana Madden in the 11th inning on second base with nobody out.
Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina) pitched six solid innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out seven batters throughout the duration of his start. He fielded a comebacker off the bat of Jimmy Faul, starting a textbook 1-6-3 double play to end an early offensive opportunity.
Both teams combined for 28 hits in the effort. Jared Williams (University of South Carolina), Hill, Duty and Garcia all had multi-hit efforts. Fayetteville's Austin Upshaw, Alex Liquori, Demetrius Webb and Branden Boggetto combined to hit 10-for-22, scoring all six runs.
The Blowfish have now won two in a row, scoring 23 runs in the past two games.
The road trip continues in Gastonia as the Blowfish take on the Grizzlies at Sims Legion Park. Catch all the action on Z93.1 FM The Lake starting at 7:00 p.m. for the pregame show.
The Blowfish will return home on Friday, July 10 for a matchup with the SwampDogs. Tickets for Princess Night, which will include a Prince and Princess Parade and postgame fireworks, are still available by calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, online at blowfishbaseball.com, and at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street in Lexington, S.C.)
