Wilmington Sharks News Release

The Wilmington Sharks (19-14, 5-2) lost to the Fayetteville SwampDogs (14-20, 2-5) for the first time of the 2015 summer by a score of 9-2 on Tuesday night in Fayetteville. Fayetteville pitching held Wilmington to seven hits, with no Shark having more than one.

SwampDogs starter Joey Lucchesi earned the victory after cruising through five innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out seven Sharks on the evening. Lucchesi worked most of the game with an advantage, being supported by an offense that posted three runs in the second and four in the third.

Cody Tyler shoulders the loss, allowing seven runs in four innings of work, striking out two, walking three, and plucking two SwampDogs.

Wilmington scored first in the third following Brett Smith's leadoff single. Lucchesi tried to pick off to Smith at first when the throw sailed wide allowing Smith to move up to third. Smith would tag up and score on Nick Rotola's sacrifice fly to center.

Another run would cross in the seventh on a Jae Roberts homerun to deep left center field. This was the fourth home run launched off the bat of Roberts this summer.

The Sharks return home Wednesday to host the Wilson Tobs yet again. For tickets, visit wilmingtonsharks.com or call 910-343-5621.
