Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Leslie Anderson slammed two home runs and drove in six as the Bulls defeated the Louisville Bats, 12-6 Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The six RBI from Anderson was the most by a Bulls player this season.
Anderson's first home run came in the fourth inning when he drove an 0-1 pitch from Bats starter Matt Maloney over the fence to lead off the inning and cut the Bats lead to 5-3. After Brandon Guyer singled and Felipe Lopez walked to lead off the seventh inning, Louisville went to the bullpen brining in Jerry Gil. Gil retired Russ Canzler before Anderson hit his second homer of the ball game again to right field giving the Bulls a 9-6 advantage. Anderson would add a two-run single in the eighth inning scoring Lopez and Canzler to make it 12-6.
Desmond Jennings also homered, hitting a two-out solo shot in the sixth inning. It was his sixth home run on the season, after hitting just three all of last season. He also scored three runs on the night giving him 33 runs scored on the season, which is tied for the International League lead.
Justin Ruggiano scored three runs for the Bulls, and continued his assault on the team's career Triple-A record book picking up an RBI and four stolen bases in the game. He now has 296 RBI trailing Chris Richard's 299, and 104 stolen bases trailing BJ Upton's 107.
Alex Torres started for the Bulls going five innings and allowing five hits and five runs, walking five and striking out seven. Jake McGee (1-0) worked out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning to collect the victory, and Cory Wade worked around a lead-off double in the ninth inning to finish the game out for the Bulls.
Durham will wrap up the four-game series, and look to earn a split of the season series against Louisville at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 7:05 p.m. on Friday May 20 when they will send Brian Baker (2-2 4.34) to the mound against the Bats Scott Carroll (1-1 4.63).
