Trenton Thunder News Release
The Thunder scored ten times across the sixth and seventh inning to cruise to a 10-4 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Tuesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
After Zack Littell and Cory Taylor dueled a scoreless game into the sixth inning, the Thunder offense broke through with a six-run frame. Sharif Othman started the rally with a solo home run off the right field foul pole and later in the frame, Mike Ford singled in Jorge Mateo with a single. After a sac fly from Billy Fleming and another run scoring on an error, the Thunder added to the lead with RBI doubles from Zack Zehner and Othman. The Thunder sent 11 men to the plate in the inning in support of Littell.
The Thunder put the game away in their next at bat with an RBI single from Rashad Crawford and a three-run homer from Zehner to take a 10-0 lead.
For the second straight start in a Thunder uniform, Zack Littell matched his career-high with ten strikeouts across six innings pitched. Littell allowed just five total baserunners and threw 97 pitches to earn his second win with the Thunder.
Richmond scratched four runs out in the eighth inning against the Thunder bullpen combination of Nick Rumbelow and Cale Coshow.
Jorge Mateo made his Double-A debut on Tuesday night and went 2-for-5 with a pair of infield singles. Mateo showed off his blazing speed on both of his hits, earning hits on plays that normally would have been outs.
Zehner and Othman each had three-hit games in the win. Mateo and Thairo Estrada each had two-hit games at the top of the lineup for the Thunder.
