Isotopes Survive Ninth Inning Scare, Defeat Memphis 4-3
The Memphis Redbirds (25-15) loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but the Isotopes (21-18) were able to hang on and secure a 4-3 win. The victory for Albuquerque marks the team's third win in the last four games.
In his second appearance with the club, Isotopes starter Thad Weber earned his first win of the season. The right-hander allowed just two runs to the Redbirds potent offense, striking out six and walking one during his five innings on the mound.
Right-hander Johendi Jiminian tossed two scoreless frames in relief of Weber while Austin House picked up his league-leading sixth hold, recording a perfect eighth inning for the Isotopes.
Things got interesting in the ninth inning for Albuquerque closer Matt Carasiti. The Redbirds had the tying run at third and the winning run at second with just one out, but Carasiti escaped the jam and picked up his PCL-best 10th save.
The Isotopes bats collected 10 hits during the matinee with Rafael Ynoa, Cristhian Adames, Collin Ferguson and Daniel Castro each recording a multi-hit game. Ynoa drove home two runs while Adames and Castro each knocked home a run.
The Isotopes and Redbird wrap up their four-game set Thursday evening from AutoZone Park. Left-hander Ryan Carpenter (2-2, 4.67) will get the nod for Albuquerque while the Redbirds will turn to righty Mike Mayers (2-4, 5.82). First pitch from Memphis is set for 6:05 p.m.
