Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla- The Pensacola Ice Flyers (12-13-6) dropped their Friday night contest against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs (11-17-5) by a score of 4-3 in overtime inside the Pensacola Bay Center.
After a scoreless first, it was Ice Flyers captain Corey Banfield who broke the scoreless tie. He skated down the slot and lifted a backhander over the left leg of Roanoke goalie Ryan de Melo with 15:25 left in the second period. Josh Harris and Riley Spraggs had the helpers. The Rail Yard Dawgs managed to tie the game up when Massimo Lamacchia skated in on Matt Zenzola and redirected a pass into the back of the net with 7:56 left in the middle frame.
The Ice Flyers regained the lead when Banfield fed the puck over to Belisle as Belisle was crashing the net and Belisle put the puck past de Melo. Spraggs had the other assist on the goal that came 9:41 left in the third. A little under three minutes later, Spraggs netted a goal of his own to make it 3-1 Ice Flyers with 6:50 left in the third. Harris and Bryan Dallaire picked up the assists on Spraggs' team-leading 16th goal of the season. After Andrew Schmit received a five-minute major and game misconduct for spearing, Roanoke's Jackson Brewer scored a power play, extra attacker goal with 2:09 left in the third. Less than a minute later, a bouncing puck found its way behind Zenzola tying the game. Brewer got credit for the goal for his second of the game.
With the score knotted at three after 60 minutes, the teams headed to sudden death overtime. Seven seconds into the extra period, Colin Murray backhanded a shot over Zenzola to secure the win for the Rail Yard Dawgs.
Zenzola stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced from Roanoke as his record fell to 8-7-5 on the season.
The Ice Flyers will be back in the Hangar tomorrow as they close the weekend by facing the Rail Yard Dawgs again. It will be Mardi Gras Night in the Hangar and the game will feature multiple on-ice Mardi Gras parades as well as a post-game bead toss by the Ice Flyers players. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
