Game Recap: Ice Flyers Even the Series with 7-3 Win over Ice Gators

LAFAYETTE, LA. (December 23, 2014) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers even the series at 3-3 with the Louisiana Ice Gators as they get their first win at the Cajun Dome this season in front of the 1,265 in attendance on Tuesday night.

Louisiana didn't waste any time as Luke Kasteel struck first for the Ice Gators 43 seconds into the first period. A power play goal at the 3:24 mark from Adam Pawlick evened the score. It was Pawlick again at 12:11 to give the Ice Flyers the 2-1 lead. Brett Lutes would later extend the lead to 3-1 at 15:47 of the 1st period from Michael Budd to end the period.

It was in the second period where the physical play picked up as both teams accounted for a total of 53 penalty minutes; 27 for Louisiana and 26 for Pensacola. Before either team saw the penalty box, Nick McParland made it a 4-1 game in favor of the Ice Flyers from Pawlick just over 5 minutes into the second. Less than a minute later, Kasteel and Brandon Blair dropped the gloves and ignited both teams into a very physical battle. In the midst of the chaos, both teams had power play goals which included Louisiana's Benjamin Rubin's goal at the 7:42 mark and a late tally from Pensacola's Nick McParland to make it a 5-2 game going into the 3rd period.

Temper's had settled down going into the third as both teams were refocused on the task at hand, but Pensacola continued their goal count as Nick Lazorko was credited for his first goal as an Ice Flyer following the trade from Huntsville making it 6-2 the 15:18 mark. Louisiana's Jake Hauswirth cut the lead in half shortly after, however Cody Ferriero's late goal with 41 seconds left in regulation gave the Ice Flyers the 7-3 victory.

It was Matt Zenzola's first appearance in net at the Cajun Dome against his former team. He stopped 21 of 24 shots for his first win as an Ice Flyer.

Both Pawlick and McParland had big nights with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. Pawlick increases his goal count to 19 and continues to lead the SPHL.

The Ice Flyers are now 14-3-4 for 32 points and remain on top of the the standings.

Following Christmas, Pensacola will be on the road to face the Huntsville Havoc both Friday and Saturday night. Watch both games live at Beef O Brady's in downtown Pensacola or off 9 mile road.

January 2nd and 3rd is $5 weekend at the Bay Center. All seats (excluding glass) on only $5. Friday night's match will be against the Mississippi RiverKings and Saturday's against the Columbus Cottonmouths.
