Game Preview: Undefeated Gens Look to Continue Dominance against Frontenacs in Home Opener at 6:05pm
September 29, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
The first home game for the season - presented by Ontario Motor Sales - sees the Oshawa Generals against a division rival, the Kingston Frontenacs. The Generals are coming home looking to defend their strong 3-0 start to the season - against the Frontenacs' weaker 0-1-1 start.
This is the second time the Generals and Frontenacs meet this season, as they kicked off the season with a bout in Kingston on September 20. The Generals were victorious on that occasion with a score of 4-1.
Players to Watch- Oshawa Oliver Suni - The Generals selection in the 2019 CHL Import Draft has started the season strong particularly showing dominance in Friday's match against the Mississauga Steelheads as he amassed a whopping 4 points (1-3-4) earning the first star of the game.
Ty Tullio- Tullio is showing that his success in his rookie season was not a fluke, by having a very strong start to this season. The Generals 2018 first-round selection, is in his NHL draft year, looking to prove NHL scouts and the rest of this league that he is a force to be reckoned with. His 5 points (2-3-5) in the first 3 games of the season have him tied for the team lead with Suni, Brett Neumann, and Danil Antropov.
Players to Watch - Kingston Shane Wright - Wright, a 15 year-old, is the latest in a line of players to have been granted exceptional status to the Ontario Hockey League - allowing him to enter the league 1 year younger than other players. He is only the 6th player in the history of the league to have been granted this honour - putting him in company with Edmonton Oilers' captain Connor McDavid and Generals' great John Tavares. Wright, the 1st overall pick in this year's OHL draft, is already considered to be the top prospect for the 2022 NHL entry draft.
Nick Wong - The Generals' second-round selection in the 2017 OHL draft saw an uptick in production after being traded to the Frons last season. While he is a smaller player, he's a hard working player, not afraid to go into the dirty areas to make a play. Entering his NHL draft eligible season, he'll also look to prove himself to the league and NHL scouts alike.
DON'T FORGET! Before tonight's 6:05pm puck drop at the Tribute Communities Centre, the team will be hosting the Oshawa Generals Street Fest from 1pm-6pm on Athol Street between Mary and Albert - right beside the arena. The afternoon will offer a tailgate experience to anyone in the community featuring live music, a rock-climbing wall and more. For more information click here! We can't wait to see you there!
