Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release
TUCSON, AZ- Fresh off a win in Las Vegas against the Knight Hawks, the Sugar Skulls will look to keep that momentum brewing as they face another opponent on the road. They will travel to Frisco, Texas to take on the Frisco Fighters.
Dating back to last season, Tucson has now won 6 of their last 8 games. It's a tough task to open the season against two tough opponents on the road, but it's a challenge that Sugar Skulls head coach Dixie Wooten and company are prepared for.

First Time
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Sugar Skulls and Frisco Fighters. The Fighters' inaugural season in the IFL was last year, though the teams were not scheduled to play against each other. While Neal and Co. will likely be a lot for the Fighters to handle, Frisco possesses its own dynamic offense, which put up 60 points on Duke City last week.
Fighting Spirit
Despite a 1-1 record, the Fighters have posted quality performances to open the 2022 season. In a back-and-forth Week 1 contest with the Massachusetts Pirates, Frisco lost 30-27 on a game-winning Pirates field goal as time expired. In Week 2, the Fighters blew out Duke City, leading 30-0 at halftime en route to a 60-33 win.
Players to watch
Sugar Skulls quarterback Daquan Neal is coming off an extremely productive Sugar Skulls debut where he looked like his 2019 IFL MVP-self in their Week 1 win over Vegas on Sunday. His reunion with head coach Dixie Wooten seemed to pay off, as Neal tossed four touchdowns and ran for another in the Sugar Skulls' 48-39 victory over the Knight Hawks. Neal added 178 yards in the air.
Tucson's skill position players showed out in the team's Week 1 debut against Vegas. Running back Mike Jones ran for two touchdowns and was his usual productive self, while wide receiver Arthur Jackson caught three touchdowns in his debut.
Fellow wide receiver Carrington Thompson also hauled in a 24-yard score to put the Sugar Skulls up 41-33 over the Knight Hawks just seconds into the fourth quarter.
Connor Taylor was all over the place as well in his team debut, totaling 7 tackles with one for loss.
