Game Preview: Spitfires Visit Memorial Cup Hosts Spirit on Saturday

Windsor, ON - The Spitfires are looking to continue the momentum into this weekend as they collected three wins in the last four games. Windsor defeated the Flint Firebirds, Owen Sound Attack and Mississauga Steelheads over the last two weekends to improve to 7-4-0 under Casey Torres. The Spitfires will be looking to continue improving each and every day and have their eyes set on the Saginaw Spirit. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm on Saturday at The DOW Event Centre.

Head-to-Head:

The Spitfires head into Saturday's game placed last in the OHL's Western Conference with a 11-20-1-0 record just 2 points behind Sarnia. The Saginaw Spirit are currently placed 5th in the West with a 20-10-0-1 record. Most recently, they faced the Soo Greyhounds in the Saginaw where they lost 5-2.

Saturday's contest will be the fourth of eight meetings this season between the two clubs. The Spitfires took the first matchup in Windsor with a 5-2 victory. The Spirit won the second and third meetings on a back-to-back. Over the past five seasons, the Spitfires are 19-9-4-0 overall against the Spirit and 8-6-1-0 at the DOW.

During the 2022-23 season, the Spitfires had a record of 6-1-1-0 while the Spirit had a record of 2-5-1-0.

Scouting the Spitfires:

Liam Greentree (NHL draft eligible) is tied with Oliver Peer on the Spitfires in points (42). He has 20 goals and 22 assists in 29 games. Greentree has 6 points in his last four games (3 goals, 3 assists).

Oliver Peer is tied with Greentree with 42 points. He currently leads in the Spitfires in goals with 21. Peer has twelve goals in his last 10 games and has collected 5 assists as well.

Anthony Cristoforo has been hot as of late racking up the assists. He has seven assists in his last five games.

Cole Davis sits 5th in rookie scoring with 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists).

Scouting the Spirit:

Their last time out, the Spirit lost to the Greyhounds at home 5-2. Michael Misa had a goal and an assist on the two Spirit goals. He was named the third star of the game.

Zayne Parekh (NHL draft eligible) leads the Spirit from the backend with 43 points (13G, 30A). He has collected seven points in his last five games (3 goals, 4 assists).

Hunter Haight (Minnesota Wild) is currently 2nd in points, he has 14 goals and 24 assists this season for 38 points. He had a five game point streak going but as been struggling as of late with just 1 point in his last three games.

Michael Misa (NHL draft eligible 2025) currently sits third in points on the Spirit with 15 goals and 22 assists. Misa was given exceptional status in 2022 and was drafted first overall. He has collected three points in his last two games (1 goal, 2 assists).

Looking at the tenders, Andrew Oke has had the 50/49 split between himself and Nolan LaLonde. Oke currently has 13 wins in 20 games with a 2.91 GAA and a .897 SV%.

Next Up:

The Windsor Spitfires will return home after the game in Saginaw for a New Years Eve clash on Sunday afternoon. The Sarnia Sting will be in town for our annual New Years Eve game. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05pm.
