Game Preview: Spitfires Visit Erie on Saturday

Windsor, ON - The Spitfires had a big win on Wednesday as they defeated the visiting Flint Firebirds by a score of 5-3. The Spitfires currently sit four points out of the final playoff spot with a game in hand. They will be looking to continue improving each and every day as they have gone 6-2-2-0 in their last 10 games and have their eyes set on the Eire Otters and Niagara Ice Dogs this weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm on Saturday at The Erie Insurance Arena and on Sunday at the Meridian Centre at 2:00pm.

Head-to-Head:

The Spitfires head into Saturday's game placed last in the OHL's Western Conference with a 12-20-3-0 record just 4 points behind Sarnia and Flint. The Erie Otters are currently placed 7th in the West with a 16-15-4-0 record and 9 points ahead of the Spitfires. Most recently, they faced the Owen Sound Attack where they lost 4-1.

Saturday's contest will be the second of four meetings this season between the two clubs. The Otters took the first matchup in Erie with a 7-1 victory back in October. Over the past five seasons, the Spitfires are 9-6-2-2 overall against the Otters and 3-4-1-2 in Erie.

During the 2022-23 season, the Spitfires had a record of 3-1-0-0 while the Otters had a record of 1-3-0-0.

Scouting the Spitfires:

Liam Greentree (NHL draft eligible) leads the Spitfires in points (49) and assists (27). He has 22 goals and 27 assists in 32 games. Greentree has a five-game point streak going with 10 points in during that span (3 goals, 7 assists).

Oliver Peer is second in scoring with 46 points. He is also on a five game point streak with 8 points over the last weekend. The overager is closing in on his 150th career OHL game as he sits just 2 games away from the milestone.

Jacob Maillet sits third on the Spitfires in points. He has collected 9 points in his last five games.

Ryan Abraham has been on a heater as of late as he has a seven-game point streak. He has collected 11 points over that span (7 goals, 4 assists).

Scouting the Otters:

Their last time out, the Otters lost to the Owen Sound Attack 4-1. Dylan Edwards scored his 3rd on the season and the lone goal.

Pano Fimis currently leads the Otters with 37 points (11G, 26A). He has three points in his last three games.

Malcolm Spence (NHL draft eligible 2025) is currently second in points with 36, he has 8 goals and 28 assists this season. He has six points in his last four games (2 goals, 4 assists).

Carey Terrance (Anaheim Ducks) currently sits third in points on the Otters with 22 goals and 12 assists in 28 games. He is currently away at the World Junior Championship for Team USA and will not be in the lineup Saturday.

Looking at the tenders, Ben Gaudreau has had the 80/20 split between himself and rookie Jacob Gibbons. Gaudreau currently has 17 wins in 29 games with a 3.38 GAA and a .889 SV%.
