Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, MI - On Saturday evening, the Saginaw Spirit (29-29-8-0, 66 points, 8th in Western Conference) host the London Knights (38-24-2-2, 80 points, 5th in Western Conference) at The Dow Event Center for Fan Appreciation Night presented by Express Stop Food Stores. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
We will honor the OHL careers of overage players Evan Cormier, Marcus Crawford, and Mason Kohn in a pregame ceremony before the start of tonight's game.
The Spirit will be handing the first 2,500 fans a scratch-off ticket with winners receiving prizes at Express Stop locations in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Marcus Crawford Player Magnet courtesy of Andersen Eye Associates.
Stick around after the game, as the Spirit will auction off their game-worn white jerseys in the final post game auction of the season. These are the same CCM authentic jerseys you see NHL prospects Keaton Middleton, Evan Cormier, Reilly Webb, and Brady Gilmour wear every night for the Spirit. Jerseys that are auctioned off are tax deductible, benefit the Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation, and make a great collector's item.
On Wednesday night, the Saginaw Spirit traveled to Sault Ste. Marie to face the Greyhounds. The game marked the eighth and final meeting for the Spirit and Hounds in the regular season. Spirit goaltender and New Jersey Devils prospect Evan Cormier made his 59th appearance of the season. The Greyhounds scored three times in the first period, and added a season-high five goals in the third period. Ryan Stepien scored his 10th goal of the season in the third period making the final score, 8-1.
The Knights hosted the Sarnia Sting on Friday night at the Budweiser Gardens where they fell 4-2. The Sting scored three goals in the first period opening with a goal from Drake Rymsha 25 seconds into the game. Alex Turko scored for the Knights halfway through the second period to put the score within two. Tyler Rollo scored unassisted at 13:31, but the Knight's second goal was answered with an insurance goal from Philadelphia Flyers prospect Anthony Salinitri to end the game 4-2. Overage goalie Justin Fazio made 40 saves for the Sting.
The last meeting between Saginaw and London was on Nov. 17, 2017 at the Budweiser Gardens where the Knights won 4-3 in overtime. The last three meetings between London and Saginaw have resulted in an extra period, with the Knights leading the season series 2-1.
Tonight marks the 64th regular season meeting between the Saginaw Spirit and the London Knights all-time. The Spirit enters tonight's match-up with a 14-41-5-3 record against the Knights, with a home record of 8-18-3-2 at The Dow Event Center.
