TONIGHT: The Orlando Solar Bears (6-3-1-0) begin a five-game road trip starting with their first visit of the regular season to the North Charleston Coliseum to take on the South Carolina Stingrays (6-5-0-0). This is the third of 11 total meetings this season between Orlando and South Carolina - the Solar Bears are 1-1-0-0.
FOURNIER BACK: Stefan Fournier is expected to make his return to the lineup for the Solar Bears tonight after serving a five-game suspension following Orlando's 4-1 win at Atlanta on Oct. 20. At the time of his suspension, Fournier was tied for the team lead in penalty minutes with 27. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound forward was also used as a heavy net-front presence.
SPENCER TO JUMP RIGHT IN: Defenseman Matthew Spencer will make his Solar Bears debut tonight for Orlando following his reassignment from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League on Friday. The Tampa Bay Lightning prospect skated in 14 ECHL games last year with the Adirondack Thunder, where he recorded three points (2g-1a) and 13 penalty minutes in 14 regular season games and added an additional four points (1g-3a) and nine penalty minutes in the postseason as the Thunder advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. The second-year pro is expected to be paired with veteran blueliner Mike Monfredo tonight.
BOURKE LOOKS TO CONTINUE OFFENSIVE TEAR: After joining Orlando last week, Troy Bourke has been a force offensively for the Solar Bears. The forward has recorded multi-point outings in all three games he has played so far, including a four-point effort on Tuesday vs. Jacksonville. With eight points (2g-6a) through three games, his 2.67 points-per-game average leads all ECHL skaters.
SPECIAL TEAMS BATTLE: Through two games in the regular season series, both Orlando and South Carolina have near-identical power-play ratings. The Solar Bears went 3-for-13, while the Stingrays went 3-for-12. Over the course of the season, Orlando has the slight edge, going 7-for-50, while South Carolina has gone 7-for-54 with the man advantage.
BEREHOWSKY CLOSING IN ON CENTURY MARK: With 98 career wins behind the bench of the Solar Bears, Drake Berehowsky is already the winningest head coach in the team's ECHL tenure. He is only two wins away from joining former IHL Solar Bears bench boss Curt Fraser as the second head coach of a professional hockey team in Orlando to reach the century mark in coaching wins.
NEXT GAME: The Solar Bears continue their five-game road trip when they visit the Mariners for the first time on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Cross Insurance Arena. The Solar Bears return home to host the South Carolina Stingrays for Wine Down Wednesday on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
