Charlottetown Islanders News Release

In the latest edition of the CHL Top-10, the Charlottetown Islanders ranked fifth while also being the top QMJHL team listed. So far this season that is largely due to the offensive tear the Isles have been on, seeing very few games where they struggled to find the back of the net. Sitting with a plus 38 entering this evening's game, we are far enough in now to be fairly confident in this squad. Now, with Lukas Cormier and Jakub Brabenec off to World Junior Selection Camps, Xavier Simoneau out with injury, and Oscar Plandowski having one game left to serve on his suspension, the Isles will have to shake the line-up as they face one of their bigger uphill battles to this point of the year. Tonight we welcome the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to the Eastlink Centre for a 7:30 pm puck drop.

The Titan find themselves just one point out of the top-10 in the QMJHL. With a 12-10-1-2 record they sit in twelfth place, they are picking up some steam however as they just blew the Cape Breton Eagles out of the water in back-to-back games outsourcing them 20-3. Bathurst will be without one of their bigger names tonight as well losing Hendrix Lapierre to Team Canada Camp. The Titan are currently being led by 2021 Montreal Canadiens second-round pick Riley Kidney. Kidney has recorded 36 points in 25 games to this point on the year as well as breaking his previous season record for goals of 13 having 16 so far this campaign. Island native Bennett MacArthur is also having a productive season with 24 points in 15 games.

Entering tonight's bout, the Islanders have a one-point lead over Sherbrooke for top seed, the Isles also have one more game played than the PhÅ"nix do. Charlottetown was able to bounce back into the win column Wednesday night with a 5-2 win over the Voltigeurs after losing 5-4 in overtime to the Foreurs on the last game of the Quebec trip. With three of the Isles top five scorers out of the line-up, a larger workload will be bestowed upon Patrick Guay, Brett Budgell, and Sam Oliver to keep the Isles offense rolling. Patrick Guay currently sits tied with Xavier Bourgault for most goals in the Q but will have an opportunity to pull ahead with Bourgault and close second William Dufour both off to Canada's Selection Camp. With a hot Jacob Goobie and a steady Oliver Satny backstopping the Isles, Charlottetown still remains strong to compete as their line-up gets a shake-up heading towards the Christmas break.

Isles fans are reminded that Brett Budgell's Fill The Net Food Drive is still ongoing so grab a few cans or non-perishable food items and take them to the rink with you and drop them in the net before heading to your seat. Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm this evening, tickets are available at the Eastlink Centre Box Office in person (Monday to Friday 11 am to 5 pm) as well as before game time, online, or by phone at 902.629.6625. Make sure to get your tickets early and come on out to help your boys in black and purple protect the bridge.
