Who: Green Bay Blizzard (5-1) at Chicago Slaughter (1-6)
When: Saturday, April 21 7:05pm CT
Where: Sears Centre - Hoffman Estates, IL
Blizzard Update: The Blizzard returned home last Friday for the first time in five weeks. The Resch Center crowd was not disappointed as Green Bay topped Chicago 63-36. The Blizzard jumped out to a 30-9 lead at the half behind a strong defensive performance. The defense held the Slaughter to 55 yards of total offense in the first half. Chicago made a quarterback change in the second half, but it wasn't enough. The Blizzard kept putting up points behind a great rushing attack. La'Ron Council broke the Blizzard single game rushing record with 104 yards and three touchdowns. Andrew Verboncouer chipped in with 23 yards rushing and a touchdown. Scott Burnoski led the receivers with four catches for 80 yards and three touchdowns. Defensive Backs B.J. Hill and Aaron Moore led the team in tackles with seven and six respectively. Donovan Porterie turned in his most efficient performance of the season completing 10 of his 14 passes for 160 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Slaughter Update: The Chicago offense has struggled under quarterback Juice Williams the last few weeks. In Sioux Falls, Williams only completed two passes for 21 yards. Last week in Green Bay, he completed four passes for 19 yards and was replaced in the second half by Perry Patterson. The Slaughter offense was more efficient under Patterson. He completed 9 passes for 104 yards and four touchdowns. Shatone Powers was the leading receiver last week with 5 receptions for 71 yards and one touchdown.
Series: The Blizzard and Slaughter have faced each other seven times in the last 2 seasons. Chicago leads the series 4-3. The two teams played in Green Bay last week and the Blizzard won 63-36.
Stats: Offense: Green Bay ranks third in the IFL with 54.3 points per game, Chicago ranks 10th with 43.1 points per game. Defense: The Blizzard is fourth in the IFL at 39.3 points per game and the Slaughter is ranked 14th with 52.3 points per game. The Blizzard defense is second in interceptions with 13. Saturday's game features two of the top rushing teams in the IFL and two of the top running backs. Blizzard RB La'Ron Council (99 carries for 342 yards and 10 touchdowns) is the top ranked rusher after his record breaking performance last week and Slaughter RB Daniel DuFrene is ranked fourth. Chicago's veteran linebacker Lenny Radtke is second in the IFL with 72 total tackles.
Transactions: Green Bay aquired QB A.J. Toscano (Charleston Southern) in a trade for Future Considerations with the Omaha Beef. The Blizzard released DL Robert Wills. Chicago signed DL Chris Turner (Alabama) and activated DB Chris Rodgers from the Short Term IR. The Slaughter released DB David Earl and DB Pat Jackson .
