Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Because baseball is a game for all ages, Reliant has again teamed with the Hooks to provide every fan with a chance to turn their baseball dreams into a reality. Corpus Christi Hooks enthusiasts can enter the Reliant Summer Sweepstakes at Whataburger Field or online at corpuschrisithooks.com, now through July 31st, for a shot at winning one of four unique prizes.

"It's great to partner with Reliant for a second time as we provide exceptional baseball experiences for their sweepstakes winners," Hooks president Ken Schrom said. "The diversity of these packages ensures there will be strong interest in a summer full of baseball fun."

"We're excited to provide four lucky fans with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities," said Manny Rodriguez, Reliant vice president, sponsorship marketing and charitable giving. "Working with the Hooks, we are helping create memories and enhance family fun at the ballpark. We always look for innovative ways to interact with and give back to the communities we serve, and this sweepstakes is just one of the many ways we do that."

Prizes for the Reliant Summer Sweepstakes include:

Bat Kid for a Day

One winner will receive the opportunity to have their child of choice serve as honorary bat kid during a select home game. Age range of child: 8-14. Drawing: May 7.

On the Road with the Hooks

One winner will receive a trip for four to watch the Hooks take on the San Antonio Missions at Wolff Municipal Stadium in San Antonio. Tickets to one game, one-night single occupancy hotel accommodations and gas card provided. Drawing: June 8.

Hooks Owners Experience

One winner will have the chance to watch a select Whataburger Field game from the Owner's Suite during the 2012 season. The experience includes 12 tickets, food, non-alcoholic beverages and a VIP tour of the ballpark. Drawing: July 6.

Honorary First Pitch

One winner will be invited to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to a select Hooks game at Whataburger Field. Four game tickets also included. Drawing: August 6.

Whataburger Field patrons can sign up to enter the sweepstakes at guest services or by visiting cchooks.com .

The sweepstakes offers incredibly unique activities for fans of all ages-the children who wonder what it's like to actually retrieve a bat after one of their heroes lines a base hit into the outfield and the adults who ponder the possibility of following their favorite team on the road, perhaps catching a game in the arch-rival's stadium.

The young and young-at-heart who tend to measure distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate by the televised misrepresentation, might be especially hopeful about the honorary first pitch-if only they knew just how far 60 feet, six inches really is.

Most fans think about owning their own professional ball club. Of course, none of us mortals can afford the up to $2 billion Magic Johnson's group pooled to purchase the Dodgers.

About Corpus Christi Hooks: Each spring, fans across the State of Texas eagerly anticipate the annual renewal that is baseball season!

Corpus Christi's Whataburger Field, completed in 2005 at a cost of $25 million, is home to the Hooks, Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. The Hooks focus on exemplary customer service in a family-friendly environment. Advance ticket prices of $10/$12 for reserved seats and $6 for general admission meet affordability requirements.

In 2012, the Hooks play 70 games at Whataburger Field between April 2 and August 27. For complete schedule and ticket information, go to cchooks.com

The ballpark occupies land once dominated by cotton warehouses at the Port of Corpus Christi. Its architectural attributes, from mammoth wood beams to corrugated siding, pay tribute to the site's heritage. In fact, the scoreboard in left-center field is framed by antique cotton presses.

This is an oh-so intimate venue with modern amenities and clever design features. For example, patrons never lose sight of the game on the field while in concession lines. From standard stadium fare to funnel cakes to chopped beef sandwiches to lemonade to stuffed baked potatoes to specialty frozen treats, no one goes home hungry.

During games, large oceangoing vessels and their tiny tugboat escorts navigate the ship channel, which runs from left to right beyond the stadium compound. Ships clear the iconic Harbor Bridge (1959), a magnificent span for Highway 181, before churning out to the Gulf of Mexico through Corpus Christi Bay.
