Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
IronBirds Swept By Renegades
The IronBirds suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the Hudson Valley Renegades. The 'Birds offense went cold during the series, only scoring four runs and totaling just 13 hits. The series was highlighted by solid starting pitching performance by Dylan Bundy, Bennett Parry, and Nick Cunningham, who only allowed four earned runs total in their outings combined.
Turning The Page
The IronBirds have ended the month of June with a 1-16 record, their worst June in franchise history since 2005. The 'Birds record in June is now 62-109 all-time. The IronBirds' winless record at Ripken Stadium in the month of June also marked the first time they didn't record a home win in the month since 2005.
Best Performance In Weeks
In two games so far, Jemile Weeks has gone three for seven with one scored run. He has also walked twice and stolen once. He's been placed in the leadoff spot in both games, playing both designated-hitter and at second-base.
When The Yanks Come Marching In
The Staten Island Yankees will play visitor at Ripken Stadium tonight, coming in with a 10-7 record. So far on the season, the Yankees are the only team that the IronBirds have defeated. A 1-0 victory on June 18 marks the 'Birds lone victory so far on the 2014 season.
On the Mound Tonight...
The IronBirds will send RHP Pat Connaughton to the mound tonight against the Staten Island Yankees. This will be Connaughton's first professional start. He had a 3-5 record in 10 starts for the Notre Dame last year. He finished with a 3.92 ERA.
