LAST TIME OUT: The top-scoring offense in Minor League Baseball struggled as the Tarpons dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 3-1 and 8-2, to the Bradenton Marauders on Friday night at GMS Field.

Game 1: RHP Randy Vasquez (L, 1-2) logged his longest start of the season (5.2IP, 5H, 3R/0ER, 0BB, 7K, HR, 79P/55S)...In the 4th, Bradenton rallied following a 2-out fielding error, capped by a 3-run HR by Mikol Escotto...Juan De Leon (1-for-2, HR, BB, RBI, R) clubbed a solo HR in the 5th (his 4th)...RHP Nelvin Correa tallied 4Ks over a scoreless 1.1IP (1H, 2BB) in relief...Tampa batters finished 0-for-5 with RISP and left eight runners on base.

Game 2: LHP Ryan Anderson (L, 0-2) struggled with control in the 1st (0.2IP, 1H, 4ER, 4BB, 1K, 34P/13S)...Anthony Volpe (1-for-1, 2B, CS) doubled in the 1st, but was caught trying to steal 3B and was later ejected (along with MGR David Adams) for arguing...Jesus Bastidas (2-for-2, BB, RBI, R) put the Tarpons on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd...LHP Edgar Barclay tossed a season-high 75 pitches (51 strikes) over 3.2IP (6H, 3ER, 2BB, 5K) in relief...RHP Wellington Diaz allowed 1ER in 1.2IP (1H, 2BB, 4K)...RHP Tanner Myatt tallied 2Ks over a scoreless 1.0IP (1BB)...Jake Sanford (1-for-4, RBI) hit an RBI single in the 7th, but the comeback fell short.

DIVISION LEAD CUT SHORT: After dropping both games of last night's doubleheader, Tampa finds itself clinging to a one-game lead over Bradenton in the Southeast League West Division Standings. The Tarpons are currently on their first three-game losing streak of the season, but will look to get back in the win column tonight in game 5-of-6 in the series vs. the Marauders.

VOLPE STREAKING: Last night, Anthony Volpe hit safely in both ends of the doubleheader, extending his hitting streak to 14 games, which is tied for the longest active hitting streak in the Southeast League. The 20-year-old is batting .422 (19-for-45) with 10R, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 4HR, 13RBI, 11BB and 5SB in that span.

300 CLUB: After scoring a dozen runs on Sunday,, the Tarpons became the first team in Minor League Baseball to score 300 runs in 2021. Tampa enters today with an MiLB-best 316 runs scored (7.90/G), which is 11 more than next on the list: Triple-A Reno (305 runs). No other team in the Southeast League has scored more than 239 runs (Bradenton). Anthony Volpe (33R) currently ranks 2nd in the league in runs scored, with Elijah Dunham (32R) and Austin Wells (32R) tied for 3rd, Andres Chaparro (31R) tied for 6th, Pat DeMarco (28R) ranking 8th and Trevor Hauver (26R) tied for 11th.

VS. BRADENTON: Tonight, the Tarpons will continue a six-game series against the Bradenton Marauders. Bradenton currently leads the season-series, 3-1. The teams are scheduled to square off a total of 12 times throughout the season. In 2019, Tampa finished 8-9 against Bradenton, going 5-4 at home.

LEAGUE LEADERS: The Tarpons enter today leading the Southeast League in several categories, including runs (316), hits (358), RBI (287), doubles (82), home runs (56), walks (253), AVG (.268), OBP (.393) and SLG (.471). The Tarpons have six players ranked among the top-10 RBI leaders in the league, including: Austin Wells (1st, 34RBI), Anthony Volpe (2nd, 32RBI) Pat DeMarco (3rd, 28RBI), Trevor Hauver (T-4th, 27RBI), Andres Chaparro (8th, 26RBI) and Elijah Dunham (9th, 25RBI).

DOUBLE DINGERS: Last Friday, Chad Bell logged a multi-HR game at Clearwater, becoming the sixth Tarpons batter to accomplish the feat. Josh Smith did so in Game 2 of a doubleheader on 6/5. Anthony Volpe and Elijah Dunham both did so during Game Two of a doubleheader on 6/3. Trevor Hauver (5/4) and Pat DeMarco (5/5) did so during the opening week of the season.

VOLPE WINS POW: Last week, INF Anthony Volpe was announced as the Southeast League Player of the Week (May 31-June 6). After going 0-for-4 on 6/1, Volpe finished the week with multiple hits in 4 of his last 5 games, batting .526 (10-for-19, 2 2Bs, 3B, 2HR, 4BB, 7RBI, 6R, 3SB) in that span. On 6/3 vs. Lakeland, the 20-year-old logged his first-career multi-HR game, including a career-high 6RBI (3-for-5, 2HR, 2B, BB, 2R). Volpe becomes the second Tarpons INF to win POW, joining INF Trevor Hauver (May 4-9).
