After winning its final five matches of the 2018 regular season, Sounders FC (18-11-5, 59 points) begins its 10th consecutive run in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs on Sunday with the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals at Cascadia rival Portland Timbers (15-10-9, 54 points) at Providence Park (2:30 p.m. PT / ESPN, ESPN Deportes, TSN, TVA Sports, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Following Sunday's match, second-seeded Seattle hosts the return leg against fifth-seeded Portland on Thursday, November 8 on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. The Timbers advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals with a 2-1 win at FC Dallas in the Knockout Round on Wednesday.

Sunday's match is being carried nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, featuring Adrian Healey, Taylor Twellman and Sebastian Salazar on the call. Sports Radio 950 KJR AM is airing the fixture on the radio, with Matt Johnson on play-by-play and Kasey Keller on color commentary, in addition to Jackson Felts, Pete Fewing and Danny Jackson handling pre-match, halftime and post-match duty. Fans in Western Washington can listen to El Rey 1360 AM for a Spanish radio broadcast, featuring "Zuper" Mario Rodriguez, Felipe Maqueda and Carlos Tapia.

This playoff matchup marks the second time the rivals have met in MLS postseason play, as Seattle and Portland faced off in 2013, a 5-3 aggregate win for the Timbers. This marks the fifth time Seattle and Portland have met in postseason play across all eras (1975, 2004, 2005, 2013), with the two sides each advancing twice previously. Dating back to 1975, Seattle and Portland have met 102 times, with Sounders FC leading the all-time series, 51-37-14.
