Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

Corpus Christi (35-32) @ Frisco (40-27)

Jose Cisnero tossed the first shutout of his career, and his first complete game, to lead the Hooks to a 5-0 win over the RoughRiders here last night. Cisnero (4-6) allowed just two singles and two walks while striking out six over his nine innings of work. He threw 118 pitches, 81 for strikes. Cisnero had on two occasions gone as deep as seven innings this season. His effort last night is the first complete game and first shutout by a Hooks pitcher since Dallas Keuchel hurled a complete-game shutout at Arkansas May 29, 2011.

Kody Hinze powered a two-run home run in the fourth - his second homer in as many nights. Jonathan Villar added an RBI double later in the fourth while Andy Simunic chipped in with an RBI single in the ninth. Simunic came around to score the final run on a wild pitch.

A victory here tonight would secure Corpus Christi's first winning half since the first half of the 2010 season (36-34).

Tonight's Matchup:

LHP Brett Oberholtzer (5-3, 4.44) vs. RHP Barret Loux (11-0, 2.81)

Oberholtzer, acquired by the Astros last July in the Michael Bourn deal with Atlanta, makes his 13th start for the Hooks and his third against the RoughRiders. This past Tuesday at Whataburger Field, Oberholtzer ran his winning streak to three games with one of his best efforts of the year. He held the Missions to a run on six hits over 7.2 innings in Corpus Christi's 6-1 win. Oberholtzer did not allow a run until the eighth, and the 7.2 innings represents his longest outing of the year. Over his last five starts, Oberholtzer is 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA. Oberholtzer has worked a minimum of 5.1 innings in 10 consecutive starts with the Hooks. A Southern League All-Star with Mississippi last year, Oberholtzer is listed as the No. 7 prospect in the Astros system according to Baseball America.

- Has a 1.61 GO/AO ratio in 12 starts with the Hooks

- In 2 starts against Frisco is 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA (1 ER in 14.0 IP)

- Made his AAA debut for OKC at Albuquerque April 30 (5.1-7-4-4-1-3, L)

Loux, signed by the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in November of 2010, makes his 13th start this season and his fourth against the Hooks. Loux, who got bumped a start in favor of Roy Oswalt, last pitched June 7 at San Antonio when he tossed five shutout innings to beat the Missions 4-0. Loux has won 11 of his 12 starts, with the only hiccup being a no-decision against Tulsa here at Dr Pepper Ballpark June 1. The Riders went on to win that game 4-3 in walk-off fashion, so Frisco is a perfect 12-0 when Loux starts. Loux leads the league in wins and ranks second in ERA. In his junior year (2010) with Texas A&M, Loux went 11-2 with a 2.83 ERA, with 136 strikeouts in 105.0 innings. Those numbers brought him acclaim as a First Team All-Big 12 selection, a Louisville Slugger Third Team All-American and a semi-finalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award.

- Holding Texas League hitters to a .237 average

- In 3 starts against the Hooks is 3-0 with a 2.20 ERA, with 22 Ks in 16.1 IP

- Originally the sixth pick in the 2010 draft by Arizona, but didn't sign and was later declared a free agent

Cisnero's gem

The effort by Cisnero last night was, as previously mentioned, the first shutout and first complete game by a Hooks pitcher since Dallas Keuchel tossed a complete-game shutout against the Travelers May 29 last year at Dickey-Stephens Park. Today, Keuchel made his major league debut for the Astros in a start at Texas.

Cisnero is the fifth pitcher to toss a complete game in the Texas League this season - and the only pitcher in the loop to post a shutout.

HR streak

Hinze's home runs here the last two nights beyond the Diamond Deck in left give the Hooks home runs in eight straight games - the longest such streak for the club this season. The Hooks have hit exactly one home run in each of the last eight games.

With 55 home runs, the Hooks stand fifth in the Texas League in that statistic. The RoughRiders, with 65 homers, rank second.

Not a first, but a second

Last night's result marked just the second time this year that the Hooks have won a game on the road when facing a left-handed starting pitcher. Chad Bell was the victim last night, suffering his first loss of the season.

The Hooks are now 2-7 when facing a left-handed starter on the road. Over against lefty starters, the Hooks are 6-12.

Chapman not available

This bit of news was revealed too late to make yesterday's notes packet. Hooks LHP Kevin Chapman tonight is serving day two of his three-game suspension for his ejection from this past Wednesday's game at home against San Antonio. In that game, Chapman opened the ninth by throwing a pitch that went behind San Antonio batter Ali Solis. Chapman was immediately ejected from the game by plate umpire Brandon Misun.

Chapman will next be available to pitch Tuesday night in San Antonio.

Pitching Rotation at San Antonio
