Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

Corpus Christi (34-31) @ Frisco (39-26)

Carlos Lee homered, but it wasn't enough, as the home club got good pitching and very timely hitting to edge the Hooks 4-3 last night in the opener of this four-game series. The result snapped Corpus Christi's longest winning streak of the last five seasons at seven games. Jose Felix provided the big hit - a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth that gave Frisco the lead for good at 4-2.

Relievers Fabio Castillo and Joseph Ortiz combined for four innings of one-hit, shutout relief to secure the victory for southpaw starter Tim Murphy (3-7), who was charged with three runs over five innings.

The Hooks are up against the wall, entering play tonight five games behind the RoughRiders with five remaining to play in this first half.

Tonight's Matchup:

RHP Ross Seaton (5-3, 4.28) vs. RHP Nick Tepesch (0-0, 0.00)

Seaton, a third-round selection of the Astros in the 2008 draft, makes his 13th start for the Hooks and his second against the RoughRiders. This past Sunday at Whataburger Field, Seaton allowed five runs on six hits and a walk over five innings in an 11-6 rout of the Missions. Seaton received nine runs of support in the first two innings and had an 11-0 lead after four, and therefore was in no real danger when he served up five runs on five hits in the fifth inning. Following a five-start string from May 8-30 that saw Seaton go 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA, the native Houstonian is 1-0 with a 10.24 ERA in his last two outings. Seaton was selected by the Astros as Corpus Christi's pitcher of the month in May, when he went 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in six starts. A valedictorian at Houston's Second Baptist High School his senior year, Seaton has not missed a turn in the rotation since July of 2009 when he pitched for Lexington - a span of 76 starts.

- Has issued 2 or fewer walks in 10 of his 12 starts with the Hooks

- Is 2-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 8 road starts (3-1, 3.75 ERA in 4 home starts)

- Made AAA debut with OKC April 22 vs. Albuquerque (4.2-7-6-5-2-1, ND)

Tepesch, a 14th-round pick of the Rangers in 2010 out of the University of Missouri, makes his AA debut here tonight against the Hooks. Summoned to fill RHP Justin Grimm's spot in Frisco's rotation after Grimm received the call to join the Rangers, Tepesch has spent the entire season with Myrtle Beach in the Carolina League, where in 12 starts he was 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA. Last Saturday at Carolina, Tepesch tossed the first complete-game shutout of his career, blanking the Mudcats on three hits and three walks over seven innings in the first game of a doubleheader. Over his last five starts for the Pelicans, Tepesch went 4-0 with a 0.78 ERA (3 ER in 34.2 IP). That streak of goodness began May 19 at Wilmington, when Tepesch hurled the first 7.1 innings of a combined no-hitter against the Blue Rocks.

- Had a 2.20 GO/AO ratio in his 12 starts for the Pelicans

- Allowed just 3 HRs in 71.2 innings in the Carolina League

- Went 6-6 with a 4.20 ERA in his junior year at Missouri and led the Tigers in strikeouts

Lee continues rehab at 1B

Astros 1B Carlos Lee, currently on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, enters day two of his three-game rehab assignment with the Hooks. Lee is scheduled to play first base tonight and tomorrow, with the possibility of being activated by Houston on Sunday.

A 14-year veteran of the major leagues, Lee has played 49 games this season for the Astros, hitting .297 with 8 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HRs and 23 RBIs. His last action came June 1 in a home game against Cincinnati.

In 2,001 games over the course of his 14 years in the bigs, Lee has 353 home runs and 1,309 RBIs.

HR streak

Lee's two-run home run over the 364 marker in left in the first inning last night gives the Hooks home runs in six straight games - the longest such streak for the club this season. The Hooks have hit exactly one home run in each of the last six games.

With 53 home runs, the Hooks stand fifth in the Texas League in that statistic. The RoughRiders, with 65 homers, rank second.

Bullpen stout

Arcenio Leon's two innings of shutout relief last night continued a forward trend for Corpus Christi's bullpen. Over the last eight games, Hooks' relievers have posted a 1.66 ERA, with just 4 earned runs allowed in 21.2 innings. In that time, relievers have recorded three wins and two saves.
