Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
FORT WORTH, Texas (April 5) - Leading three games to none in the opening-round, best-of-seven playoff series, the Fort Worth Brahmas have the chance to sweep the Quad City Mallards with a win in game four at the i Wireless Center Friday night.
Fort Worth has won the first three games of the series by a combined score of 10-5, despite the last two wins coming in overtime. After a 4-1 victory in game one at the NYTEX Sports Centre, the Brahmas outlasted the Mallards in overtime of game two with a 3-2 victory on John Snowden's game-winning goal. The series shifted to Moline, Illinois for game three, but the outcome was the same as the previous contest. Colin Mulvey scored the deciding goal in overtime to give Fort Worth a 3-2 win and a 3-0 lead in the series.
Special teams play has been a contributing factor to the Brahmas' success in the first three games. Fort Worth is 4-for-14 on the power play, while killing all six power-play opportunities for the Mallards. Each team has scored a short-handed goal in the series.
Ross Rouleau leads the Brahmas with four points (no goals, four assists) in the series. After missing game one, the Fort Worth captain notched two assists in both the second and third game of the series. Phil Fox, Eric Tallent and Calin Wild have each scored two goals, leading the team in the postseason. Seven different Brahmas have scored a goal in the series.
After finishing second in the voting for Central Hockey League Most Outstanding Goaltender, rookie Kristofer Westblom is 3-0 thus far in the postseason. His 1.54 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage both rank third among all playoff goalies.
Mickey Lang leads the Mallards with two goals in the series after ranking second in the CHL with 41 scores during the regular season. Captain Darren McMillan leads the team with three points (one goal, two assists).
In two starts, netminder John Murray is 0-2 with a 2.79 goals-against average and .898 save percentage. Rookie Neil Conway is 0-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.
The Mallards are 0-2 this postseason in games when leading after the first period. During the regular season, Quad City was 23-0-0 when holding a lead after 20 minutes of play.
Game four is set for Friday, April 5 at the i Wireless Center in Moline, Illinois at 7:05pm. Should the series be extended, game five would be played Saturday, April 6 in Moline. If necessary, games six and seven are scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
