MOLINE, Ill. - Mickey Lang scored twice as the host Quad City Mallards rolled to 5-2 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas Friday night to avoid being swept in the best-of-seven opening round of the Central Hockey League playoffs, cut the Brahmas' lead in the series to three games to one and force a fifth game tomorrow night in Moline.

The Mallards never looked back after exploding for four first period goals and outshooting the Brahmas 19-5 in the opening 20 minutes. Lang's wrist shot from the top of the right wing circle kick-started the onslaught at 4:01 of the first. Just 14 seconds later Shayne Toporowski swept home a rebound to double the Mallard lead. At 14:55, the Mallards were on the power play when Lang struck again, this time from the left wing circle. Lang's second goal chased Brahma goaltender Kristofer Westblom from the game. Just over four minutes later, the Mallards were again up a man when Anthony Perdicaro drove the puck past Fort Worth relief netminder Brad Fogal from the high slot.

Matt Boyd scored the fifth straight Mallard goal by pouncing on a rebound at 7:57 of the second period.

Two third period Brahma goals did nothing to affect the outcome. Adam Hogg jammed in a rebound to beat Mallard goaltender John Murray (37 saves) for the first time at 10:41 of the third. Fort Worth was up 6-on-3- after the Mallards had been called for back-to-back penalties and Fogal was pulled for an extra attacker- when John Snowden one-timed the second Brahma goal from the left wing circle with just 14 seconds left in the contest.
