June 3, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks return to the Ector County Coliseum to close out the 2011 regular season with back-to-back home games beginning with a non-divisional match-up against the Arizona Adrenaline on Saturday, June 4. The Roughnecks are coming off a 48-6 road victory over the Bricktown Brawlers (OKC) back on Saturday, May 28. The Roughnecks clinched a playoff berth with the win and they enter Week 16 tied with the Allen Wranglers for first place in the Lone Star Division with an 8-4 record.
This is the second meeting between both the Roughnecks and the Adrenaline (1-11) this season as the Roughnecks won the previous match-up back on May 7, 82-27, in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Arizona will see a different look out of the Roughnecks this time around with starting QB K.J. Black who continues to fill in for injured QB Arkelon Hall. Black is coming off his best performance of the season against the Bricktown Brawlers last Saturday when he threw for four touchdown passes, including two to WR Wilson Kimble. The Roughnecks receiving department as a whole played an important part in the win last Saturday. WR Josh Floyd will be a key target on Saturday against Arizona as he continues to lead the Roughnecks in all-purpose yards and total touchdowns, but look for Wilson Kimble as well as Tim Bush to be assets in the passing game.
The Roughnecks defensive unit put together another solid performance in the win over the Brawlers by allowing a season-best six total points. The unit also produced three total interceptions as well as two sacks on the final drive of the game. The Roughnecks defense enters this week ranked first in the IFL in average yards allowed per game and average points allowed per game. The secondary will play a key part on Saturday against an Arizona offense featuring QB Dennis Havrilla. Havrilla has the ability to be a dangerous threat running with the football as well as throwing. However, the Roughnecks defense managed to record seven interceptions in the last win over Arizona including six from the secondary. Roughnecks DB Anthony Beck is listed as questionable for the match-up against Arizona but look for Marrio Norman, Derrick Boyd, and Clarence Wright to be key factors in containing the Adrenaline passing attack. In addition, look for defensive linemen Ronnie Mason, Jeramie Richardson, and Jermaine Blakely to be the important starting factors up front for the Roughnecks in pressuring the pocket against Arizona. Look for Roughnecks WR Josh Floyd to play a key part in terms of returning kicks on special teams, and look for kicker Zeke Arevalo to make an impact on kickoffs as well as field goal opportunities as he recorded five field goals in the Roughnecks last home game versus Wichita.
