Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 6/3/11 - The Amarillo Venom look to make it four wins in-a-row in their home finale Monday, June 6th, as they take on the Bricktown Brawlers at Coors Light Field. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
The Venom is coming off of a 79-32 road win against the Arizona Adrenaline, while the Bricktown Brawlers is coming off of a 48-6 loss at home to the West Texas Roughnecks.
"Last week we got off to a quick start which I thought was important," said Julian Reese, the head coach of the Venom. "We need to get off to a similar start against the Brawlers and keep playing well offensively."
The Venom scored on 12 of 14 possessions in their game against the Adrenaline and were lead by starting Quarterback Sherard Ellis who finished the game 8-10 with five touchdowns through the air.
Not only did the Venom have success through the air, they also had success on the ground which was a major emphasis of Coach Reese when he took over. Against the Adrenaline the Venom had 114 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. Edward Cantrell led all rushers with 52 yards on 4 carries and a touchdown.
The Venom will look to continue their success offensively against the Brawlers and are feeling confidant about their ability to do just that. So confidant in fact, they are guaranteeing a win against the team from Oklahoma City. The Venom is backing up their guarantee by giving a free season ticket for 2012 to anyone who buys a full-priced ticket for Monday's game if they happen to lose.
"We go into every game thinking we are going to win," said Coach Reese. "The front office has made their expectations known and now it is our job to take care of business."
This is the rubber match between the two teams as the series is knotted up 1-1 with each team winning at home. The Venom lost the first contest to the Brawlers 29-20 in Oklahoma City March 13th and won 50-35 at home on May 14th.
The Venom's game against the Brawlers will be "Fan Appreciation Night" with lots of giveaways from the Venom's sponsors. The Venom will also be holding a $25,000 contest at halftime thanks to The People's Federal Credit Union. To sign up for the $25,000 contest visit the Venom's Web site www.govenom.com or stop by their customer service desk before the game.
