The Counterpunch
Friday's Game 1 produced a tough result for the Hawks as a late Moose Jaw goal gave the Warriors the win in a tightly contested tilt. Portland rallied from two goals down to knot things up in the third before Matthew Savoie's game-winner, and there are plenty of positives to draw from the game despite the result.
"Any time you get some momentum, especially on home ice, you want to capitalize on it and I thought we did that in the third," said Winterhawks Head Coach/GM Mike Johnston following the game. "We had some very good shifts...really good chances. Those are opportunities we need, those are shifts we need to build on."
"I thought it was a close game overall. Unfortunate that they got that late one, but we'll just be better tomorrow."
As the series rolls on and the teams become more familiar, each side will adapt to the other's strengths and weaknesses and find new ways to dictate play. And if we've learned anything from the playoffs thus far, the difference between one game and the next can be wildly different, even when separated by just one day. So pack the VMC, bring the noise and help send the Hawks to Saskatchewan with a tied series!
Game Day Guide
Welcome back to the VMC! For all WHL Championship games, VMC doors will open 90 minutes prior to puck drop (5:30 doors, 7:00 puck drop), giving fans an extra 30 minutes to get in and get fired up for game time!
Once you're in, enjoy fun concourse activations like face painting outside Entry GG and hit the team store if you need some new merch to help create a sea of red in the VMC. Then, make sure you're in your seats by 6:25 to kick off the electricity right from warmups!
