One More
Winning in the playoffs is a step-by-step process, and tonight the Winterhawks can take a big step with another victory. Having come out on top through the first three games of the series, Portland needs just one more win to advance to the second round of the 2022 WHL Playoffs. They say the fourth victory is the hardest to get, but the sooner the Hawks can get it done, the more time they will have to rest and heal ahead of what is sure to be another grind in round two.
About Last Night
After the high-octane Hawks put up five in game one, the most recent two games of this series have been tight-checking, defensive battles with some stellar goaltending at both ends. Game three featured Taylor Gauthier's first career WHL Playoffs shutout with 28 saves against his former club, while Gabe Klassen got things done at the other end with both Portland tallies in a 2-0 win. The Hawks were lucky to escape game three without apparent injuries after scares to Jaydon Dureau and Luca Cagnoni, especially being down Aidan Litke and Clay Hanus already.
Winning on the road is no easy task, and with one under their belt, the Hawks will be looking for more in game four.
Powered Down
One of the more curious storylines of the last two contests has been the lack of power-play production from either side. Portland's hot power play fueled the team's game one victory but has since gone 0-for-8 in the last two outings. Meanwhile, Prince George is 0-for-3 across games two and three and has just one power-play goal in seven opportunities in the series.
For the Winterhawks, producing on the man-advantage is a habit they'll want to have at the forefront if they move on to face high-scoring competition in Kamloops, Everett and/or Seattle. With a chance to put Prince George away this evening, look for Portland's power play to come out firing as the team looks to jump-start its scoring.
