Now We Go
The wait is over - playoff hockey is back in Portland! The U.S. Division Champion Winterhawks are set to open their first-round matchup against the 7-seed Victoria Royals at 7:00 P.M. tonight. Portland posted a 4-0-0-0 record against Victoria in the regular season, but two of those games required overtime or a shootout and, as the saying goes, anything can happen in the playoffs.
Former Winterhawk Dawson Pasternak spearheads the Royals' attack, with fellow 20-year-old Tyson Laventure and star rookie Cole Reschny rounding out a potent top line. On the back end, Nate Misskey and Justin Kipkie lead a blue line that was plagued with injuries for much of the year but began to return to health late in the year. A familiar face in former Everett Silvertip Braden Holt has held down the fort in goal - a netminder that veteran Winterhawks will know well.
The Winterhawks hold an advantage in depth and high-end talent on paper, but they'll need their greatest advantage to get the job done - a rowdy, raucous, red VMC! Bring the noise tonight!
