WE'RE IN!
With last night's dominant 8-3 showing against Vancouver at the VMC, your Winterhawks are officially playoff-bound for the 13th straight year! Boasting a Western Conference-leading 77 points and 37 wins in 53 games, the Winterhawks joined Prince George and tonight's opponent, Everett, in clinching their spot in the postseason. Now, attention turns to U.S. Division and Western Conference title fights against both of those clubs, meaning the two points up for grabs tonight are crucial with just one separating the Hawks and Tips.
Last Time With The Tips
Portland has won six of seven meetings against Everett this season and their last came in impressive fashion earlier this week. The Winterhawks ran out 10-2 winners over their divisional rival, flexing their muscles and sending a shot across the bow of their competition.
Since then, each team has won one and lost one, with the Hawks splitting a set against Vancouver and the Silvertips topping Wenatchee on Friday and falling to Seattle on Saturday. Now, they face off for the final time in the 2023-24 regular season before completing their race for the division title against other opponents. It's a must-have two points in such a tight battle, and the Hawks will be keen to keep their season-long dominance of the Silvertips going strong with a statement road win tonight. Let's Go Hawks!
Milestone Moments
James Stefan scored twice in Saturday's win to hit 100 goals in the WHL, joining Gabe Klassen as the only active Winterhawks to hit the century mark in goals. Stefan leads the Winterhawks and ranks fourth in the WHL with 39 tallies on the year, setting a new career high after posting 34 in the 2021-22 campaign.
Klassen himself is approaching an impressive feat, sitting just one point shy of 250 in his WHL career. Plus, newcomer Nate Danielson is eyeing up 200 points as a WHLer with 196 in just 185 career games thus far. After posting multi-point efforts in Tuesday's rout of the Silvertips, both players will feel confident about hitting their marks in Everett tonight.
