SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings end a three-game weekend stint with a home game against the Wichita Thunder this afternoon at 3:05 PM in Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center. Mississippi brings a 22-22-4 record into the afternoon contest, while the Thunder are 24-17-2. Broadcast coverage is on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM (560) with pre-game coverage beginning at 2:50 PM. The RiverKings fell in overtime for the second straight night last night in Tulsa, as the Oilers rallied for a 4-3 overtime victory at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Jack Combs scored the game-winning goal 45 seconds into the extra session for the Oilers. Mississippi went out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Patrik Levesque and Louis Dumont, but the Oilers fought back with two goals in the second and one more in the third to take a 3-2 lead. However, Jeff Christian ‚¬â„¢s back-handed near the crease tied the game for the RiverKings with 6:19 left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Mississippi out shot the Oilers 37-33 for the game with goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy (11-9-1) making 29 saves for the RiverKings.

PLAYER NOTES:

Nathan Lutz is tied for third in the CHL for power play assists at 20, leading all league defensemen in that category. Lutz also leads CHL defensemen in points with 41 and assists by a D-man at 31.

Russell Smith ranks fifth in the CHL for minor penalties taken with 39. Smith is third among league defensemen in penalty minutes taken with 133, leading the RiverKings in PIMS. Smith has taken 22 penalty minutes in his last five appearances, dating back to February 4th.

Louis Dumont is in a tie for second in the league for shootout goals scored with three. Dumont played in his 300th career CHL and RiverKings ‚¬â„¢ game last night in Tulsa.

Alexander Pechurskiy ranks tenth in the CHL for goals-against-average at 2.72.

Chris Auger leads CHL rookies in shorthanded goals scored with three and is tied for third in the league for plus-minus by a first-year player at +9.

Derek Landmesser is in a tie for tenth in the CHL for points from the blue line with 29 and is third in the league for blue line assists with 16.

TEAM NOTES: Mississippi continues to lead the CHL in penalty minutes taken with 1191.....the RiverKings also lead the league in game misconducts with 14 and is tied for the CHL lead in match penalties with one.....the RiverKings ‚¬â„¢ 24.91 penalty minutes average leads the CHL.....Mississippi has out scored its opponents 78-62 on DeSoto Civic Center ice this season.....in one-goal games, the RiverKings are 8-8-4, but are 8-2-0 in games decided by three goals.....on home ice, Mississippi is 8-0-0 when leading after two periods and are 3-6-0 when trailing after forty minutes....the RiverKings are 7-2-0 in home games decided by three or more goals.....Mississippi ‚¬â„¢s four-game winless streak (0-2-2) is tied for longest active string of its type in the CHL, tied with Laredo.....the RiverKings have not won at home in its last two appearances on DCC ice, dating back to Saturday, February 5th.

MISSISSIPPI VS. TURNER CONFERENCE: The RiverKings enter today ‚¬â„¢s game with a 15-11-2 record against teams from the Turner Conference. The last RiverKings victory against a team from the northern half of the CHL came Friday, January 28th in the 5-0 shutout of Bloomington at the DeSoto Civic Center.

MISSISSIPPI VS. WICHITA: Mississippi brings a 2-0-0 record against the Thunder into today ‚¬â„¢s game. Mississippi prevailed 3-2 in a 15-round shootout at the INTRUST Bank Arena on November 24th, part of a three-game road trip. Louis Dumont scored two goals in the shootout round, including the game-winner in the 15th. Goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy then stopped Troy Schwab to preserve the victory. The RiverKings then shutout the Thunder 5-0 on DCC ice on December 4th, with Matt Summers scoring a three-goal hat-trick and Pechurskiy stopping all 27 Wichita shots. Mississippi travels to Kansas next Friday night, and again on March 11th and the season finale on March 27th. Today is the last meeting of the season in Mississippi.
