Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Regina, Saskatchewan -- The Brandon Wheat Kings arrived in Regina Monday night and have set their sights on taking a commanding lead in their Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Swift Current Broncos.

The Wheat Kings took advantage of home ice this past weekend, defeating the Broncos 5-2 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday night to take a 2-0 lead in their best of seven opening round playoff series.

A victory on Tuesday would push the Broncos to the brink of playoff elimination. Should a fifth game be necessary, it will be played Friday night at Westman Place.

The Broncos have been forced to play their home games at the Brandt Centre in Regina this week because the World Women's Curling Championship is taking place at the Credit Union I-Plex in Swift Current.

One Wheat King looking forward to playing in Regina is 19-year old center Brent Raedeke.

"It's going to be nice to go home and see my family again, at least for two more games, so that's always bonus," Raedeke told CKLQ's Bruce Luebke. "It's a nice rink too, I like playing there and I think most of the other guys do to so I think it's to our advantage."

Raedeke has a goal and three points during the first two games of the series.

The Wheat Kings enter Tuesday's game, having had pretty good success at the Brandt Centre in recent years. In fact, Brandon has won nine of their last ten games in Regina.

20-year old veteran Matt Calvert, who recently signed with the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets, leads Brandon with two goals and 5 points during the first two games of the series while all star defenceman Colby Robak has four assists in two games.
