Gamblers Win Round One
December 4, 2009 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Three third period fights and a 7-3 road loss Friday set up an interesting rematch between the Waterloo Black Hawks and Green Bay Gamblers when the scene shifts to Young Arena Saturday.
The Gamblers broke open a scoreless game with five second period goals, four of them in the first 7:51 of the period. David Makowski scored twice in the span, while Reed Seckel, Anders Lee, and Ryan Furne all added goals. Bryce Ravndalen and Tyler Barnes answered in the frame, and Soren Jonzzon brought Waterloo back within two goals early in the third. Power play strikes by Ludwig Karlsson and Sam Alfieri late in the third put the Gamblers out of reach.
The rough stuff started with about 7:30 remaining when Jamie Hill was checked from behind in front of the Black Hawk bench. That touched off an immediate scrap between Aaron Harstad and Jimmy Siers. The following two faceoffs, Dan Sova dropped the gloves with Chris Crane and Blake Thompson danced with Patrick McCadden.
The rematch at Young Arena begins at 7:05 on an iWireless College Night, with $5 tickets for college students with a valid id. The first 2,500 fans of all ages will receive a Black Hawks window sticker courtesy of Famous Dave's.
