DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Fighting Saints battled back and forth with the USHL's top team throughout Friday night's game, but it was the Green Bay Gamblers scoring in overtime to pull out the 3-2 win over Dubuque.

The Gamblers broke the scoreless tie just over sixteen minutes into the first period. Nicholas Schilkey capitalized when he grabbed control of a rebound on the left wing side of the ice and deposited it into Connor Girard's net. Sheldon Dries had the initial shot, and picked up the assist for Green Bay just seconds after Gambler powerplay expired. Both teams had good scoring chances in the first frame, with Green Bay outshooting Dubuque 12-8 after the first twenty minutes.

The Fighting Saints tilted the ice to their offensive zone in the second period, outshooting Green Bay 15-9 in the frame. Ryan McKay, through a combination of skill and luck, was able to keep the Fighting Saints off of the scoreboard until late in the period, however. With Dubuque on the powerplay, the Fighting Saints finally broke through in the final minutes of the period. Jono Davis picked up his own rebound and scored top-shelf to tie the game with 1:05 to go in the second. Creative passing from Milos Bubela and Kevin Morris set up the goal.

Davis scored his second goal of the night five minutes into the third period, backhanding a rebound past McKay to give Dubuque the 2-1 lead. Tyler Lundey had entered the zone, dishing the puck to Kyle McKenzie at the left point. McKenzie fired a shot towards McKay, which resulted in the rebound chance for Davis. An odd-man-rush the other way tied the game for Green Bay once again, though. Peter Maric sent a pass across the ice to Ville Jarvelainen, who scored to knot the game at two. Neither team scored in the remainder of the period, sending a game to overtime for the first time in the six-game season-series between the two teams.

The Fighting Saints had opportunities in the extra frame, but were unable to sneak a puck across the goal line, though they did hit a post. Green Bay capitalized on a netfront rebound chance to grab the 3-2 win. Alex Broadhurst sent the puck home after Sam Herr put the initial chance on net.

The Fighting Saints will host the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The following Thursday, Team USA will visit the Key City. The Fighting Saints will then go on the road for four straight games, and will next play in Dubuque in the final weekend of March.
