TEAM NOTES
STREAK SNAPPED: With the 2-0 loss against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, the Galaxy have snapped their 10 game unbeaten streak, going 2-0-8 in that time. The run was the fourth longest unbeaten streak in club history, and the longest since a 12-game unbeaten streak that ended early in the 2000 season. The four longest unbeaten streaks in Galaxy history are...
15 Games September 7, 1997 (6-1 win vs. Tampa Bay) May 20, 1998 (3-1 loss at Chicago)
12 Games April 13, 1996 (2-1 win vs. MetroStars) June 30, 1996 (2-1 loss at Colorado)
12 Games October 9, 1999 (1-0 win at Kansas City) May 24, 2000 (2-1 loss at New England)
10 Games April 11, 2009 (0-0 draw vs. Chivas USA) June 13, 2009 (2-0 loss vs. Real Salt Lake
The Galaxy are the first team in MLS history to have four separate streaks of 10 or more consecutive games without a loss in their club's history. The Chicago Fire, D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo have each had three 10-game unbeaten streaks, but only the Galaxy have tallied four 10-game unbeaten streaks. During the current streak, the Galaxy were 1-0-3 at home and 1-0-5 on the road. Additionally, they fell behind in six of the 10 games, only to come back and earn a draw in each.
LEWIS SEES RED: On Saturday night, midfielder Eddie Lewis was sent off in the 65th minute with a straight red card, his first ejection in MLS since in 1997. Therefore Lewis will not be eligible for the club's next match against the Earthquakes with whom he spent three seasons from 1996 to 1998. Overall, the red card marked the Galaxy's fifth of the season with all five coming at home. It's the most since tallying five 2007. The club's has seen more people sent off in a single season only once with seven players being shown red in 1998. Here are all of the club's ejections this season so far: Gregg Berhalter (4/11 - CHV and 5/30 - KC), Alan Gordon (4/11 - CHV), Dema Kovalenko (3/22 - DC), and Lewis (6/13 - RSL).
RICKETTS TASTES DEFEAT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MLS: Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts suffered his first loss in MLS action on Saturday, giving him a 2-1-8 record with a 1.00 goals against average, leaving him in fifth place in the league in goals against average. The loss also leaves him two games short of reaching former Galaxy goalkeeper Jorge Campos' 12 game unbeaten streak to begin his career with the Galaxy in 1996.
WE'RE BACK ON ESPN2: Saturday's game will be the Galaxy's second game on the Deuce this season, the first ended in a 1-1 draw against Chivas USA on April 11. In the last three seasons, the Galaxy's record on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 is 2-7-5 overall, 1-4-2 on the road.
The game in Oakland is also the first of five consecutive games that will be televised nationally. Over the last three seasons, the Galaxy have accumulated a record of 11-16-10 in games televised nationally on ABC/ESPN, FSC and TeleFutura. The club's record on nationally-televised road games over that same time span is 4-11-5.

VALENTIN RETURNS TO CLEVELAND: Galaxy defender Julian Valentin has returned to Cleveland City Stars of the USL First Division on loan. Valentin played 90 minutes in central defense in the Galaxy's 1-0 win over CS Herediano of Costa Rica at The Home Depot Center last week. During his first month-long loan spell with the City Stars, Valentin appeared in and started five games for Cleveland, playing the full 90 minutes in each while scoring one goal.
On Saturday, he scored the second goal in a 3-0 home win over the Rochester Raging Rhinos. The win was Cleveland's second of the year, both were shutouts, and Valentin played in both games. Cleveland will face Rochester a second time when the two clubs meet in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday in Rochester.
LANDON INTERNATIONAL UPDATE: LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan scored the opening goal for the U.S. National Team at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa today, but it was not enough as the USA fell 3-1 to the reigning World Cup champion Italy. Next, the Red, White and blue will take on Brazil (6/18) and then Egypt (6/21) to round out group play with the top two teams advancing to the tournament semifinals.
Donovan is the all-time leading scorer with 40 goals in 112 games for the U.S. and has two goals and five assists through the first five games of the current round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, helping the U.S. to second place in region with a 3-1-1 record. Donovan, who leads the Galaxy with six goals and four assists this season, will miss at least the Galaxy's next game against San Jose and would miss the club's home game against Houston on June 28 if the U.S. advances beyond group play.
YOUTH ACADEMY
LA GALAXY U-20's STAY PERFECT WITH 4-0 WIN: The LA Galaxy Youth Academy U-20 team remained perfect on the season, defeating the Bakersfield Brigade 4-0 at Pomona College. With the win, the U-20's are now a perfect 4-0-0 on the season, having outscored their opponents 12-2. The Galaxy are now three points clear of SUSA and Chivas USA at the top of the USL Super-20 League Pacific Southern California Division standings. The Galaxy have six games left on the season as they look for their second straight Division championship.
They are back in action with a pair of games this weekend as they travel south to Poway on Friday, June 19 to take on the Poway Vaqueros at 7 p.m. before returning home to host the Southern California Seahorses on Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Home Depot Center.
