Galaxy to play 2005 home opener vs. Real Salt Lake April 9

CARSON, CA (Wednesday, December 22, 2004) – The Los Angeles Galaxy kick off their tenth season celebration at The Home Depot Center against Major League Soccer expansion club Real Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 7 pm. In addition to the first-ever match between the two teams, all fans in attendance will be treated to a post-game Fireworks Show.

"We are extremely excited to announce the date and opponent for our 2005 home opener," said Los Angeles Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "We look forward to welcoming Real Salt Lake to Los Angeles and giving our fans a great evening of soccer and fireworks as we launch our tenth season celebration at The Home Depot Center."

The Los Angeles Galaxy have compiled an impressive all-time record of 7-2-0 in their nine previous MLS home openers and are unbeaten since a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes at the Rose Bowl on April 7, 2001. It will be their first home opener under former U.S. and Costa Rica national team coach Steve Sampson, who guided the team to the 2004 MLS Western Conference Championship match.

Tickets to this historic match are only available by purchasing a 2004 Galaxy Holiday Pack.
