Galaxy to host largest fireworks show in Southern California July 4th

CARSON, CA (Wednesday, June 23, 2004) - The Los Angeles Galaxy will host the largest fireworks show in Southern California after their match on the Fourth of July against the San Jose Earthquakes at The Home Depot Center in Carson, the club announced today.

As was the case a year ago when the Galaxy also hosted the largest show west of the Mississippi as part of their inaugural season in their new stadium, Rialto-based Pyro Spectaculars will be responsible for the production.

"We are extremely proud to be hosting Southern California's largest fireworks show for the second consecutive year," said Los Angeles Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "We encourage people from throughout the Southland to come out and enjoy the magnificent display in a wonderful setting, The Home Depot Center."

Additionally, the club also announced that Cuban-American music sensation Franky Perez will be performing live prior to the match.

"We are thrilled to have Franky Perez perform live for our fans on the Fourth of July," said Hamilton. "His presence will certainly add to an already exciting evening of activities at The Home Depot Center and set the standard for 4th of July events going forward."

Franky Perez, whom some media outlets have referred to as "the Latino Bruce Springsteen", combines good, old-fashioned rock n' roll with the flair of Latin soul in his music. A year ago, he released his first album "Poor Man's Son" to rave reviews. Soon after the album's release, Perez toured throughout the United States, opening for a variety of artists including Los Lobos, Sheryl Crow, ZZ Top, Johnny Lang and Jason Mraz."

The pre-game concert will kick off the evening of entertainment off with a bang at 5:30 pm on The Home Depot Center's plaza. The Galaxy-Earthquakes match will follow at 7:00. The explosive festivities will conclude with Southern California's largest fireworks show, presented by the Daily Breeze.

Perez, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, got his start in music at a young age while learning from his parents, his mother a singer-poet and his father who also had a passion for music. His music combines honest song writing with heartfelt lyrics that mirror his blue-collar upbringing.

The Los Angeles Galaxy hold an all-time record of 4-3-1 in games played on the Fourth of July. A year ago, they tied the New England Revolution 2-2 in a re-match of MLS Cup 2002 in front of a sold-out crowd of 27,000 at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy have not lost on the Fourth of July since 2001.
