September 15, 2005 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, CA (Thursday, September 15, 2005) - The Los Angeles Galaxy have promoted forward Herculez Gomez to their 18-man senior player roster to fill the slot created by Jovan Kirovski's departure earlier this week. In addition, the Galaxy have elevated midfielder David Johnson to the senior developmental slot that was vacated by Gomez's promotion and added defender Michael Nsien to their developmental roster.
"We are very happy with the group representing the Galaxy, we have talent, experience and competition at each position," said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "We are confident that we now have all the tools we need to make a run at the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup championships."
Gomez, 23, has appeared in 17 games for the Galaxy during the 2005 MLS regular season - making 11 starts - and played a total of 1,087 minutes. He has scored seven goals, good enough for second on the team to Landon Donovan, and added two assists. Additionally, he has totaled five goals in three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games this year, to lead the team.
Most recently, he notched two goals that help propel the club to a 4-1 defeat of the Colorado Rapids on September 10 at The Home Depot Center. This is his third season with the club, after not appearing in a game in 2002 and logging just minutes played in 2003.
Johnson signed with the Galaxy earlier this season after playing for Willem II (Holland) for much of 2003 and 2004. He has yet to appear for the club in an MLS match, but has played in three MLS reserve division matches (all starts) and scored one goal.
Nsien, who played college soccer at the University of Dayton, has appeared in two games for the Galaxy reserves during the 2005 season (both starts) and played a total of 180 minutes.
The Los Angeles Galaxy will return to The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills on Sunday, September 25 when they host the Kansas City Wizards. The 5pm game will feature a celebration of the Galaxy's annual AYSO night. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Galaxy Ticket Office toll-free at 1-877-3GALAXY.
