CARSON, CA - The Los Angeles Galaxy and Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, are teaming with fans to help curb domestic violence in the community. At the October 15 Galaxy home game at The Home Depot Center, the first 500 fans to donate a used wireless phone and/or accessory to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program will be awarded a Buy One Get One Free ticket voucher for the first Los Angeles Galaxy playoff game. HopeLine drop boxes will be located at the main entrance gates of the Home Depot Center prior to the start of the match.

"Together with Verizon Wireless, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by domestic violence in our community," said L.A. Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "As a club, we strive to be a responsible community and corporate partner and through this campaign will be able to assist those in need as well as helping to promote recycling in the neighborhood we live in."

"We are grateful to the Los Angeles Galaxy for working with us to raise awareness about this social issue during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and about ways our HopeLine program helps to make a difference in the lives of victims and their families," said Marni Walden, President, Southern California, Verizon Wireless. "We want Galaxy fans to know that they can make a big difference to thousand of families by simply donating their used mobile phones and accessories to our HopeLine program, either at the October 15th match or anytime at any of our more than 1,900 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores throughout the nation."

Through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program, used wireless handsets, batteries and accessories from any service provider are refurbished, or recycled and sold. Proceeds are used to fund grants for non-profit domestic violence advocacy organizations and to purchase wireless phones for use by victims.

During the past two years, Verizon Wireless has awarded more than $400,000 in HopeLine grants and donated more than 2,000 wireless phones and free airtime to California domestic violence agencies to aid survivors.

Wireless phones and equipment can also be donated to the HopeLine program year-round at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store across the country.
