Saginaw Spirit News Release

The Saginaw Spirit shutout the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 3-0 in front of a sold out crowd of 5,527 Saturday night at The Dow Event Center. Goalie Tadeas Galansky earned the shutout with 18 saves, and Josh Shalla posted his 45th goal of the season to tie the team's record for most goals in a single season. The Spirit lead the OHL West Division with a 39-21-3-2 and 83 points with 3 regular season games remaining; the Windsor Spitfires are in second with 78 points and 4 games remaining and the Plymouth Whalers are in third with 75 points and 4 games remaining.

Spirit scoring came off the sticks of three different skaters. Center John McFarland tallied a short handed goal at 11:04 in the second period from winger Brandon Saad, then moments later at the 13:49 mark center Vincent Trocheck made it 2-0 with a goal from winger Josh Shalla and defenseman Ben Chiarot. Shalla rounded out the scoring with a goal at 8:11 in the third period from McFarland and defenseman Peter Hermenegildo.

The Spirit continued to push, pulling netminder Mavric Parks in the final seconds for an extra attacker. Despite the effort, the Sting were able to notch an insurance goal off of an empty net, coming from Kerbashian at 19:58 with the lone assist going to Hottot.

Spirit goalie Tadeas Galansky posted 18 saves on 18 shots while Greyhounds goalie Matt Murray notched 29 saves on 32 shots.
