Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves dropped the series finale against the Indianapolis Indians 4-0 on Thursday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. Gwinnett (24-29) starter Jose Ortegano posted the 400th strikeout of his career, but it wasn't enough as Indianapolis (28-26) starter Brad Lincoln got his sixth win of the season. The G-Braves are still in second place behind International League South leader Durham, but drop to 6.5 games out. The Indians are 6.5 games behind IL West-leading Columbus in third place.
It Was Over When: They filled up the Indianapolis bat rack. The Indians tallied a baserunner in every inning but one, at least one hit in each of the first 6 innings and three triples on the night.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: LHP Jose Ortegano (2-1) hit his single-game strikeout high for 2010 so far (5), but was charged with the loss after giving up 11 hits and 4 R/ER in 5.1 IP. RHP Cory Gearrin went 2.2 IP without allowing a hit, striking out 4 in relief.
At the plate: Second baseman Joe Thurston went 2-for-4 with a double as the only G-Brave with more than 1 hit. The squad recorded 6 total hits on the game.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: RHP Brad Lincoln (6-2), who was originally supposed to start Wednesday night's game, was solid in his 6.0 IP. He gave up just 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 6.
At the plate: Right fielder Kevin Mellilo put in a 1-for-4 performance with a 2-RBI triple, while first baseman Brian Myrow went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett welcomes the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. for the first game in a four-game series at Coolray Field. RHP Tim Gustafson (4-3, 6.69 ERA) will start for the Braves, while the Yankees will send RHP Romulo Sanchez (2-3, 4.78 ERA). The game will be broadcast on WDUN-550 AM.
Etc: Due to manufacturing issues overseas, the Dave Brundage piggy bank will not be given away on Saturday, June 5. Delta Community Credit Union will instead be giving away water bottles to the first 2,500 fans on game day.
