
G-Braves Pull Closer to Playoffs, Beat Bulls 2-1

The Gwinnett Braves defeated the first place Durham Bulls by a score of 2-1 in game one of a quick two game series in Durham, N.C. The G-Braves (75-61) won their third game in a row and gain ground in the hunt for the playoffs. The G-Braves pick up a game in the International League South division standings and now trail the Durham Bulls (77-58) by 2.5 games for the division lead. With the win, the G-Braves are now tied for the IL Wild Card with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (76-62), who lost both games of a doubleheader against the Syracuse Chiefs tonight.
It Was Over When: In the top of the sixth inning 1B Mauro Gomez singled, which allowed 2B Ruben Gotay to score and the G-Braves to take a 2-1 lead.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: RHP Todd Redmond earned his first win of the season against the Bulls. Redmond went 6.0 IP allowing 1 R/ER on 6 H with 3 BB. Redmond had his second best strikeout total of the season with 9 K's. The right handed starter was followed by RHP Cory Gearrin who earned his 5th hold of the season going 1.2 IP with a BB and 4 K's. RHP Jairo Asencio closed the game for the G-Braves, throwing 1.1 IP and earning his IL leading 24th save of the season.
At the plate: Gomez displayed why he was named International Player of the week on Monday. From a perfect 4-for-4 performance last night, Gomez continued his tear with another perfect performance on Monday night. Gomez finished the night going 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, BB and a 2B. 2B Ruben Gotay scored both runs for the Braves. The veteran infielder finished the day going 1-for-3 with 2 R and 2 BB. DH Stefan Gartrell, RF Wilkin Ramirez, and SS Brandon Hicks all had hits for the Braves as well.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: LHP Alex Torres started the game for the Bulls and earned his 7th loss of the season. The Rays' prospect finished the day throwing 6.0 IP allowing 2 R/ER on 7 H with 4 BB and 7 K's. He was relieved by RHP Joe Bateman who tossed 2.0 IP with a H, 2 BB and a K. RHP Adam Russell finished the game for the Bulls and tossed an inning with 2 K's.
At the Plate: DH Leslie Anderson led the offense for the Bulls on Monday night. Anderson went 2-for-4 and had the lone Durham run. The Bulls were held to only six hits on the night, all singles and all off of Redmond.
On Deck: The Gwinnett Braves play their last game against the Durham Bulls in the regular season on Tuesday night in Durham, N.C at 7:05 PM. The G-Braves send out LHP Yohan Flande (8-8, 3.88) vs. RHP Brian Baker (7-8, 6.27) for the Bulls.
