G-Braves Bested by Bats 7-5 in 10

The G-Braves lost to the Louisville Bats by a score of 7-5 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The G-Braves now fall to 6-5 in extra inning contests. With the loss, the Gwinnett Braves (54-43) remain 0.5 games ahead of the Durham Bulls (53-43) in the International League South division standings.

It Was Over When: A bunt base hit by LF Kristopher Negron with two on in the top of the 11th, allowed 1B Danny Dorn to score after a catching error by 2B Diory Hernandez.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Cristhian Martinez made his fourth start for the G-Braves on Tuesday night. He went 5.0 IP allowing 4 R/ 3 ER on 11 H, 0 BB and 3 K's. RHP Steven Shell relieved the righty and tossed 2.0 IP allowing only a single ER on 2 H with 2 BB and 2 K's. LHP Dustin Richardson was next in line for the Braves, throwing 2.0 perfect innings with a K. The left-handed reliever only needed 12 pitches to complete the two innings. RHP Juan Abreu earns his first loss of the season after coming in to pitch the top of the 10th inning. Abreu tossed 1.0 IP allowing 2 R/ 1 ER on 2 H, with a BB and 2 K's.

At the plate: The Braves offense was led by home runs from RF Stefan Gartell and 1B Mauro Gomez. Gartrell finished the night going 1-for-5 with a R, RBI and his 21th HR of the season. Gomez smashed his 100th career HR on his way to a 1-for-4 night with 2 R, RBI, BB and the HR. 3B Brandon Hicks had his 10th multi-hit game of the year and his 4th 3-hit game, going 3-for-4. SS Tyler Pastornicky, who was promoted from Mississippi before the start of the game, earned his first Triple-A hit in his third at bat in the game, an infield single. The Florida native finished the night going 1-for-4 with a R.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: LHP Travis Wood started for the Bats and pitched well, but did not factor into the decision. He left the game in the bottom of the 7th inning going 6.2 IP allowing 2 R/ER on 7 H with 0 BB and 4 K's. RHP Brad Boxberger relieved Wood in the seventh and finished the game tossing 1.2 IP allowing only a H with a K. RHP Nick Christiani came in the 9th and failed to get the save. He finished the night tossing 0.2 IP allowing 3 R/ER on 3 H with a BB. RHP Jerry Gil blew his 6th save of the year tossing 0.1 IP allowing a H. He also earns his 5th win of the year. RHP David Johnson earned his first save of the year tossing a 1-2-3 10th inning.

At the Plate: C Devin Mesoraco showed why he started for the 2011 International team in the 2011 Triple-A All-Star game. Mesoraco scored the first Bats run with a HR in the top of the second inning. He finished the night going 3-for-5 with an RBI, R and the HR. SS Paul Janish also had a multi-hit night, finishing 4-for-5 with an RBI and 2 R. LF Yonder Alonso had a 2-for-4 night with 2 RBI, a 2B and his now IL leading 6th IBB of the season.

On Deck: Gwinnett looks to bounce back against the Louisville Bats, in game three of the four game set at Coolray Field on Wednesday night at 7:05pm. RHP Erik Cordier (3-5, 4.03) will get the nod for Gwinnett against LHP Matt Maloney (2-1, 4.45) for the Bats.
