BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has signed defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk to a one-year contract extension. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
Bodnarchuk is a 5'11", 185 Ib. defenseman who spent the past three seasons with the Providence Bruins. In the 2010-2011 season he set professional career highs in games played (75), assists (15), and points (16) for the P Bruins. In 2009-2010, the defenseman made his NHL debut with Boston and appeared in five NHL games and He registered 5-1015 totals in 70 games with the P Bruins in 2009-10 and was also named the Providence Bruins Best Defenseman.
Born in Drumheller, AB, the 23-year-old was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round (128th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He is expected to join the Bruins in their full training camp which begins on Friday, September 16.
