Futy Hold off San Diego 4-3

San Diego, CA - Behind some incredible goalkeeping from Sanaldo and two goals from Juan Topete, the Ontario Fury recorded its first ever victory over the San Diego Sockers, 4-3 in front of 4,441 at the Valley View Casino Center.

In a first half in which both teams took a cautious approach, the Sockers took the lead with 3:48 left in the second quarter. Erick Reveles Tovar raced away on a counter attack before squaring for Kraig Chiles to tap in at the far post.

The Fury answered back with two goals in the third quarter. Topete scored the first of his two goals and Luan Sales Oliveira gave the visitors the lead with a thunderous drive after a feed from fellow Brazilian Tiguinho.

Next it was the Sockers turn as Enrique Tovar scored his first goal in a San Diego jersey to bring the home side back to life at the 6:40 mark.

Chiles then put the home side ahead on the power play off a feed from Nick Perera. The goal not only put the Sockers back in front but gave the captain 250 goals for his career. He is now just four away from tying the Sockers all time record set by Juli Veee.

Topete and co. would have the last laugh. Just 30 seconds after Chiles' goal, a blocked shot fell perfectly for Topete. The San Diego area native made no mistake smashing in the equalizer off the volley.

With just under three minutes to play Mauricio Salles played a perfect ball out of the corner for Tino Nunez. The 31-year-old walked in on Chris Tooth and neatly tucked the game winner into the corner.

"All these games that we play this year are going to go like this." Sockers head coach Phil Salvagio said. Hopefully we come out on the winning end of some of these, but every game is going to be tough like this. Every team is going to battle."

The two teams will lock horns again next Saturday in Ontario.
