Comets Add Another Victory To Unbeaten Season

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL (November 22, 2015) - Despite their flight being canceled due to inclement weather yesterday and their regular season visit to the Chicago Mustangs being rescheduled for tonight, the Missouri Comets (5-0) stepped onto the Sears Centre's field with only one thing in mind, a victory. Sixty minutes later, Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team left the arena with a 9-5 win in front of 1,174 fans.
Midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was named Borden Man of the Match following a stellar performance with a two goals, one of them from the Comets' yellow line.
Chicago welcomed the Comets to their home with a very offensive style of play and creating several scoring opportunities forcing Missouri to play defense throughout the entire first quarter, which paid off late in the period with the first goal of the night by Mustangs' Luis "Peewee" Ortega at the 14:22 mark.
However, the Comets bounced back early in the second stanza when goalkeeper Jesus Flores was issued a blue card for handling the ball with his hands outside his box an awarding team captain Vahid Assadpour a penalty shoot-out, which he converted to tie the game four minutes into the quarter.
After the equalizer, Missouri scored four consecutive goals throughout the next ten minutes with a power play tally from defender John Sosa, forward Ramone Palmer's first of the night, Rodriguez' long-distance chip and Max Touloute's eleventh of the campaign to end the half with a 5-1 score.
Moments after the halftime break, Miguel Vaca shortened the lead for the hosts with a rocket from the right side of goalkeeper Boris Pardo's box. However, the Comets would find the back of the net once again as an unassisted Bryan Perez tallied his second of the season before Ricardo Carvalho would get on the board with less than a minute left in the quarter.
Coach Gamboa's Mustangs made it a one-goal game in the fourth and final quarter with goals from Ortega and Vaca but the Comets had different plans as Rodriguez and Ramone Palmer completed their braces and defender Stefan Stokic notched his first goal of the season ending the match with a final score of 9-5.
Next up, the Comets remain on the road when they play back-to-back matches for the third time this season as they visit the St. Louis Ambush on Friday and the Cedar Rapids Rampage on Saturday.
