Future Steelheads: Jacob Harris

August 8, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release

With their 10th round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, the Mississauga Steelheads doubled down on another left winger as they selected Jacob Harris with the 185th overall pick.

Jacob spent this past season playing his minor hockey with the Toronto Marlboros in the GTHL. Jacob became the third Toronto Marlboros player selected by the Steelheads in this year's Priority Selection. He will join linemate Michael McLeod and goalie Kasimir Krol as they become the newest members of the Steelheads organization.

In 27 regular season games with the Marlboros the 5'7, 159 pound winger averaged almost a point per game recording 9 goals and 16 assists. It was in the GTHL playoffs where Jacob broke out as a top playmaker as he finished first in playoff scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists in the Marlboros' 16 playoff games.

Jacob was also a part of the Marlboros team that took home the 2014 OHL Cup, the team's 4th championship in the past 10 years. In the tournament Jacob continued to produce for the Marlboros as he scored 2 goals and dished out 9 assists in 7 games.

After his season with the Marlboros ended Jacob received an invite to participate in the 2014 OHL Gold Cup as a member of Team GTHL Royal. In 5 tournament games he had 2 assists as he helped Team GTHL Royal finish the tournament with the silver medal.

Along with his success with the Marlboros this past season, Jacob has also tasted success on the international level. In 2013 he was a member of Canada's U-19 Hockey Team at the Maccabiah Games held in Israel. He came home from Israel with a gold medal as Team Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in the final game.

At the time of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, Jacob was considered by many to be a second round talent, but there was uncertainty surrounding his future hockey plans. Steelheads GM James Boyd did not let the opportunity pass him by, selecting his third Marlboro of the draft.

With training camp around the corner Jacob will look to make a big impression on the Steelheads staff. His offensive playmaking ability and his familiarity with some of the other Steelheads draft picks will be an asset for him as he looks to make it onto the team's roster for the upcoming season.
