Fury looks to stay hot against the Blaze

March 1, 2003 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Dallas Fury News Release

The Tennessee Fury will look to get their fourth win in a row tomorrow against the Chicago Blaze at 3 p.m. at Maryville College. After dropping their first three games to open the season the Fury has roared back taking their last three.

Coach Rodney Minggia says there are many reasons why his team is playing better.

"We've played much better defense. Were starting to rebound better and that's always a key. I think were a lot more comfortable out there on the court, people are starting to rely on each other. The biggest thing is were finding ways to win."

The last win for the Fury came on Thursday night in Birmingham against the Power. Marie Ferdinand stepped up and played like the WNBA All-Star that she is by dropping in 26 points. In the last meeting against Chicago and Tennessee it was the Fury who would come out on top. The Fury was led by Becky Hammon who dropped in 21 points in the 76-73 victory.

Chicago comes into this game at 2-5 but Coach Minggia knows this is still a very good basketball team.

"Chicago has beaten Springfield and Houston. Chicago is a team that is aggressive on the offensive boards. They are a very athletic team. Main thing is we have to keep Dominique Canty in check. She hurt us last game and she will do it again if we don't keep her off the boards."

After Sunday the Fury will pack their bags and head out on the road, five games in a row to be exact.

"It's a tough schedule. We got to win our share. If we can continue to play the way we have been playing we can come out of this trip with a couple wins. We can't let this trip deter us from what we have been doing," said Coach Minggia.

First up for the Fury is a date with the Houston Stealth on Tuesday March 4th

NWBL Notes: Former University of Tennessee center Michelle Snow will be playing with the Houston Stealth for the remainder of the season. Snow, who plays with the Houston Comets of the WNBA, has been playing overseas and is now back to play in the NWBL. Snow is expected to be in uniform when the two teams go at it on Tuesday in Houston.
