Dallas Fury News Release

After getting their first win of the season against the Chicago Blaze the Fury will go for two in a row against the Houston Stealth. This could be a rather difficult task seeing as the Fury's leading scorer in Tonya Washington will miss the game with an ankle injury. The toughest part for the Fury may not be missing Washington it could be in trying to contain Houston Stealth star Sheryl Swoopes. Coach Rodney Minggia knows what he is in for tomorrow in dealing with Swoopes.

"We'll try to contain Swoopes because you can't just stop her. We need to limit the amount of times she catches the ball."

This sounds easy but keep in mind this is Sheryl Swoopes. She has only played in one game so far this season but she did score 28 points.

"I just think that if we can do the things we are capable of doing, like playing good defense and being patient on offense I think we'll be ok," said Coach Minggia.

Sheryl is not the only one who poses a threat to the Fury. Tamicha Jackson can also do some damage.

"Tamicha can hurt us with her quickness so we definitely have to make sure we play her tough. We want to make her shoot from the outside. The one thing we have to be careful of is that if both Sheryl and Tamicha start playing well then the rest of their team will feed off of that."

Those are two problems for the Fury the other will be replacing Tonya Washington. "I expect Marie Ferdinand to step up like she did in the last game and play well, but we can't just have Marie playing well, we need everyone to play well," said Minggia.

Catch all the action at 5 p.m. at Maryville College on Sunday. Ticket's can be purchased at the door for $8 and seating is General Admission.

Fury Notes: The team has brought in 6'1 forward Tova Gardner. Gardner played at Life University in Atlanta Georgia and was an Honorable Mention All-American averaging 16 points and 9 boards.
