Dallas Fury News Release

In a game that looked early on as if it would be a blowout turned out to be quite a finish. With some big plays down the stretch the Fury would hold on for the 63-61 victory, it's second on the year.

In the first half of this one it was all Tennessee. They jumped out to an 18 point lead with a 12-0 run led by some hot shooting early on by Semeka Randall who finished the game with a team high 19 points.

Then Houston was able to close the lead at the half to 37-32. The Stealth was led by, who other then Sheryl Swoopes. She had 12 of her game high 20 points and scored the last 6 points of the first half for the Stealth.

In the second half Swoopes picked right up where she left off nailing a three to give the Stealth it's first lead of the game at 40-39 at 16:07 of the second half.

The stealth would go up 52-49 on two baskets by Marla Brumfield. Then it was Becky Hammon's turn. She drilled two three pointers on consecutive possessions to give the Fury a 55-52 advantage with just over six minutes remaining. Hammon would finish up with 17 points in the contest.

With the Fury up60-58 Semeka Randall would go to the line and hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it a three-point advantage.

Then the Fury made a huge mistake. They left Swoopes open from the left wing and she nailed a three to tie it up with just 30 seconds remaining. Then with ten seconds left in the game Keisha Brown scored on a drive to the hole that would seal the win for the Fury.

Coach Rodney Minggia is excited to see his team stick to their winning ways.

"Tonight we just found a way to get it done. It took a lot out of us when they made that run to get back in the game, but with 6 minutes left I knew we had to give it all we had in order to come out of here with a win."

Up next for the Fury is a date with the Birmingham Power on Thursday in Birmingham a team the Fury lost to in their first meeting at Maryville College. The Fury will play the next 6 out of 7 games on the road.
