Ottawa 67's News Release
In this first of three games in eight days Ottawa Fury FC played to a 1-1 draw with Louisville City FC under a sweltering 32 degrees at TD Place extending their unbeaten streak to five games. It would be George Davis IV who opened the scoring for Louisville City FC in the 56^th minute, while substitute Nick DePuy leveled the score for Ottawa in the 68^th minute, earning another crucial point for Fury FC, who are looking to break into the top eight with four games remaining.
Looking like a team full of confidence, Fury FC cranked up the heat early on, applying plenty of pressure in the opening stages of the game. Inside the opening half hour, Ottawa gained chances from Andrae Campbell and AdonijahReid, but neither was able to find the target.
Campbell also came up big defensively for Fury FC making a timely challenge on Luke Spencer in the 36th minute to thwart the breakaway opportunity and limited the Louisville striker to a soft shot on goal.
Fury FC finished the opening half with a commanding 62% possession, and head coach Julian de Guzman stressed that ball management would be key as the match continues under the unusual and oppressive late-September heat.
It would be the Eastern Conference leaders that would break the deadlock in the 56^th minute, as a streaking George Davis IV was served by a wonderfully timed lob. His first touch allowed him to gain goal side of both Campbell and the attacking Callum Irving and Davis IV tucked it into the empty goal to send the visitors in front.
De Guzman turned to his bench in the 61^st minute, bringing on Carl Haworth who, prior to the game, was honoured for playing his 100th match with the club two weeks ago in Rochester. Nick DePuy, who joined the club on loan from Montreal for the duration of the season, also entered the match.
The pair of fresh legs would make a huge impact with DePuy earning an opportunity almost immediately, but his header went wide of the goal.
Minutes later, a determined run from Jon Barden down the right side earned him space inside the penalty area. He picked out Carl Haworth whose one-timed effort was denied by DePuy volleyed home the rebound to pull Ottawa level.
Pushing for a later winner, Fury FC got a final chance in stoppage time when a clearance came to the feet of Sito who cleanly drilled a half-volley on target which rocked off of the crossbar and stayed out.
Ottawa settled for the 1-1 draw, their fifth consecutive draw which ties a club record set last season.
Fury FC will travel to Harrisburg for a midweek contest Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to host the Charleston Battery on October 1.
